I own a carb’ed F650. I carry starting fluid in the fall and spring.

(I might need new coils... they are not cheap :P Also: not my bike, but the behavior is familiar. Interstinglly though, mine starts easy when it’s above 60 degrees, and bad coils usually (or other ignition bits) usually mean hard starting all the time)

Yeah, in sub 35f temps I need to crank mine for 30-45 seconds before it starts to fire, then sometimes a little bit of puttering before it starts running.

I’ve been amazed with my DRZ400. Non standard carburetor and starts every time, summer or winter with no fuss at all. I don’t even have to use either the choke or the hot start circuit.
