Lately I’ve been thinking about picking up an old Supra or Cressida

That reflection makes it looks like the red one has a massive door dent. But yes.

We’re in the same boat. I’ve been waiting for a clean Cressida to pop up. I’ve also been eyeing a Z20 Toyota Soarer.

Not sure where you’re located, but would this fit the bill? https://lynchburg.craigslist.org/cto/d/toyota-cressida/6423597151.html

It seems every Cressida I encounter locally has been ruined to some extent by stancebros or driftbros.

They’re fairly uncommon around here. For every 10 MK3 Supras there’s maybe 1 Cressida. I’m kind of eyeing this one. https://lynchburg.craigslist.org/cto/d/toyota-cressida/6423597151.html

It’s like a 4 hour drive. Dammit, that’s tempting. We’ve already got two old Toyotas at home, not sure if I’d even have room for a third.

That might be fun just to see if you can rejuvenate the leather - Japanese cars of that era often had that issue.

Around me, they all seem to end up either not maintained and a step away from the junkyard, or like this:

I like these first gen round light cars the most, but this one has been sent to project car hell, then abandoned:

This is probably fairly worn, but looks ok:

That second one...yeesh. Total CP. $4500 for a half-finished car with a transmission that isn’t going to hold up to the power the engine puts out. Knock a zero off and I’d consider it. The first one is sketchy but rescue-worthy, and the third one I’d consider if I weren’t across the country.

And yeah, 80s-90s Japanese leather does not hold up well. Every old Prelude I’ve encountered with leather has had seats that look like that, or worse. I spray my TSX’s seats with protectant about once a month.

The third one is the only one I might be into. I want grandma’s preserved baby, not an experiment gone awry from a 19 year old mad scientist with a flat brim hat and a vape pen. The suspension and steering wheel on the first one give me bad vibes, and as you say, the second needs too much work, even without a zero, you’ll probably always be in red ink.

Speaking of grandma, a lady across the street from my grandma was the original owner of a round light car, and kept it in nice shape. They had it all the way until about 10 years ago, then replaced it with a Corolla (!). I should have asked about it, as it always caught my eye.

Early Lexus leather seemed to age worst of all, I remember even the steering wheels would decay.

Yeah, it’s about 3 from me. If it drops down some I might pounce on it, but right now I don’t have financial room for it.
