There was an interesting segment on vh1 like 10 years ago about the rise of grunge and it discussed 3 hair bands that had signed giant contracts with the labels with plans for coast to coast radio play and concerts only to be instantly out of touch with the times and just written off.

Yeah, that was kind of an overnight switch, from what I can tell. I was about 5 when grunge took off.
