So, as part of my Dog Days, I spend a lot of time looking at these sporty version of cars in Mexico
Remember: we get way more cars than you guys, but mostly boring cars.

Its a 2008 Subaru Legacy with the 3.0 flat six, developing 245 horsepower routed to all four wheels. Its got a 5-speed autobox with paddle shifters too!
For: Its a weird Subaru with a flat six engine
Against: It needs a bit of work on the interior, its almost 10 years old, so look out for driving restrictions in Mexico City!

Its a four liter W8 Passat with AWD and an automatic transmission. It develops 275 horsepower and can sprint from 0-100 in about seven seconds
Its got a quaint interior, but just look at those BBS alloys, something makes me suspect the current owner is a part-time-bro.
For: Its a W8 passat with 43 thousand miles, its near me, and its the only W8 Passat.
Against: Its a fifteen year old car and the owner is asking too much for it.

Yes, this is the same car that Dr. House’s best friend drove around a couple of times, also a SHO taurus, and a Corvette.
It’s got a 4.4 liter Yamaha V8 crammed somewhere inside it developing 315 horsepower but more importantly, its got 440 NM of torque!
For: Its a V8 Volvo, its probably the youngest car of the list thus far, and I like the outside, it seems like its been well taken care of.
Againts: fake wood everywhere! It also has a dealer sticker that makes me suspect its not a first owner car...

Its the youngest car on the list! its also the most expensive, but it gets really close to that Passat. It’s got a pentastar v6 mated to a 9 speed automatic box routed to all four wheels. Its dissapointingly slow, yet even then its the second most powerful in the list as uf now.
For: its the youngest car
Againts: it seems to have had quite a life! despite being less than 30,000 miles in! Its so boring I didn’t even bother putting an interior shot!

Its a v8 Audi with AWD routed through a six speed manual box, its the most expensive car of the list and the most powerful by far.
For: its a bulletproof 420hp sedan
Againts: its a bulletproof sportscar in Mexico City, the suspension must be destroyed!, its also that Audi V8 that is a pain to service!

If you buy any of these, go for the Passat as it’s the only one in your area. Also I don’t know the the current exchange rates but good god! 263,000 dollars for a Chrysler?!?! I wouldn’t spend that much even on a Porsche

Those are stock W8 rims (by BBS).
For $40k+ new, that’s reasonable. Maintnenance on those is a pain. But amazing sound and great power delivery.

The Spec B had an Automatic and the 3.0 in Mexico? Everywhere else it used the 2.5 turbo and was only offered with a 6 speed manual.

Wikipedia says that some 3.0r models were Spec B with the paddle shifters.

As far as I can find the 3.0R Spec B was a limited production Japan only model. Every where else the Spec B was 2.5 + 6 Speed. Never been in a 3.0R but the paddles appear to have been standard for the 3.0s in 2008.

You’re probably right! My only source was Wikipedia, and it explained that the 3.0 did not have paddle shifters unless it was the Spec B! I did not know you could get those paddles elsewhere.
I do really love it, in fact its the only car in the list i’d eye seriously!

That seems incredibly slow for an engine that big. IIRC the 3rd Integra GS-R did a seven second 0-60.
Though to be honest those times seem pretty optimistic.

Well, the engine seems understressed, its got less than 70 hp/l, and the passat is a very heavy car, add to it the drivetrain loss from the awd box and you’ve got yourself a slouch!

A google search for Legacy 3.0R interiors show that all the photos marked specifically as a 2008 have the paddles while ones marked as 2009s don’t.
The 5 speed auto Subaru used to use with the flat 6 engines is easily the most annoying transmissions I have ever driven. The one in my mom’s old Legacy 3.6R would constantly get confused when you switched from decelerating to accelerating and sit there for a good 2-3 seconds before finally deciding what gear it wanted to be in. The paddles are a total joke. You pull the paddle and then wait 5 seconds while the car thinks about if it actually wants to do what you told it to do or just ignore you.
