If the reviews are any indication, I am thinking they did a very nice job on that car...

Sounds like they out-GTI’d the GTI.

It sounds like they got the drive right, but the sedan looks much better. I’ll wait for the Veloster N.

The front end looks quite good. But the rear looks like it’s giving birth to a sports car.

I think it looks better than the GTi, personally. I don’t know, I’ll probably get flamed for this, but I think most Volkswagen designs have looked very bland for a long time now, at least to my eyes.

Is this car coming to the US? I kinda forgot about the whole N Department.

In pictures I agree, but there’s something about the GTI (and R) in real life that makes it click for me. It’s hatch first, hot second, if that makes sense? The complete antithesis to the CTR and the smurf blue Focus RS, yet still immediately recognisable once you know what it looks like.

I’ll reserve final judgement until I’ve seen it in real life, but at the moment it looks like Hyundai has found the middle ground between shouty and too subtle. Just like Suzuki with the new Swift Sport (if you ignore the color):

No idea, but it is available in Europe, so I’m happy. There’s talk that the Veloster (which will have an N version as well) might be going to the US only though.

Pity we don’t get the Swift here...Suzuki has pulled out of Canada. :(

I like the look of the sports car hiding under the fluff.

A faster Veloster would be pretty sweet. I wonder i they’re going to try to beat the Type-R or be happy competing with the STs and Si.

Have people been given the chance to test drive these already? The old Veloster was said to be very disappointing to drive due to its chassis/steering/... I hope Hyundai has learned a lot since then.

Yup, lots of praise, it seems they’ve made a serious step up from the previous gen (Veloster and Cee’d GT).

Interesting. I assume these will depreciate faster than VWs and Renaults while attracting fewer kids from the mod crowd, so it might be a very interesting used buy in a number of years. If they sell any new, that is.

Depreciating faster than Renaults would be a challenge. It’s €8-10k cheaper than a comparably equipped GTI and it comes with 5 years of warranty, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up costing less than the GTI over a typical first-ownership period.

As for the used market, I think most hot hatches from the Golf class are a decent buy, as long as you can buy them from the first owner. €30k+ for a car tends to scare the flat-brimmed crowd into Fiesta STs and Clio RSs instead (or second-hand GTIs, of course).
