I might be getting a promotion at work. It would require having a reliable car. So now I can’t stop searching on Cl. Here’s my current options.

Kinja'd!!!

The obvious theme here is RWD sports coupe, and under 10k, less then 15 years old was on the list too, until that 242 GT showed up. I’ve always wanted a flat hood 242 because my dad had one in high school.

Also can I just tell you how much I appreciate when a mustang has no side scoops, no fake vents covering the c pillar windows, and fake hood scoops. Makes me happy. That green one also has those kick ass lights in the grille.

early S197 Mustangs like that one had random issues with water leaks taking out the BCM/SJB. def. something to ask about/check into (and hope the seller is truthful.)

I test drove a G35 sedan in a similar year. The interior was very nice, but the clutch felt really gummy (not sure if that’s how it was meant to be or just problematic on that specific car), and overall it wasn’t as powerful as what I thought a 250hp engine should feel. I guess what I’m saying is to test drive one and see if you like it.

The Volvo’s a beaut, but trusting a car from ‘79 to be your reliable daily driver is a bit iffy. (I always love to suggest getting 2 cars if you want a project, and you can probably find a less interesting but more reliable runabout for the difference between the Mustang and the Volvo, so 2 cars for the price of 1!).

And the Mustang, I have no experience with those. You might be able to get a ‘03-04 Mach 1 for the same price though, they’re a ton of fun (though probably a bit less comfortable). The hoodscoop is functional and it shakes!

I wanted a Yellow Mach1 a few years ago but I had just gotten a new job and wasn’t stable enough to take on a car payment. The good news is I will have two cars! So at least one should run at any given time lol.

Galant is currently sitting under 8 inches of snow with a flat tire and a leaky coolant hose. Hopefully it will get fixed tonight. Bj it’s spent almost half the year inoperable.

Body Control Module/Smart Junction Box. it’s behind the passenger kick panel, and integrates the BCM electronics with the interior fuse panel.

Indeed. It’s like a old school GTI for grownups. Seriously some one at Volvo saw a GTI and thought “I rather like this interior, i shall copy it”

Gotta agree whole-heartedly here. My normal DD is a ‘79 El Camino. But I have a beater ‘99 Cavalier that, while a horrible car all-around, just works every time I ask it to. That way if the Elky has decided to be grumpy, or the weather is too nasty to risk the nice car, I still have transportation.

First reaction to the G35:

“Sweet, it has the Brembos.”

Second reaction to the G35 after sleuthing to the actual listing :

“Coilovers and aftermarket touch screen stereo?”

I’d rather have 2 “beaters” of my choosing than any new car available today. (well, factoring in my budget anyways).

Hey, if you trust your current car to provide transport when the old Volvo acts up, go for it! If you take care of it, it won’t depreciate much (if at all).

Granted, it might not be the most fun to drive, especially compared to the other two... but that’s why you should test drive them all!

Buy a sedan, they’re dirt cheap and can be had with a manual.

My experience as having owned a 350Z for going on 12 years now makes me question why anyone would change the stock suspension.

I have a 350Z, the gummy clutch is a thing. Changing the fluid every 6 months or so keeps it feeling nice, but i think as they get older, the seals start wearing down and water gets into the lines eventually. This was not a problem when the car was young but is now. Its also really easy to boil the fluid when uhm...drifting.

That’s good to know that I wasn’t just imagining things.

I would say that I avoided a possible problem by not getting that G35, but the Legacy GT I got instead blew out a damper in it’s clutch master, so I still ended up with a car that had hydraulic clutch problems.

my “race car” (lemons car) has an old spring style clutch. Its fucked up when you see something like that and think wistfully “why can’t my car have a clutch setup that simple.”

There’s also this blue one. Beside the uuuugly aftermarket grille and cloudy headlights r looks nice. I love the blue https://eauclaire.craigslist.org/cto/d/2003-infiniti-g35-2-dr-only/6405917828.html

They pretty much all have cloudy headlights these days :(

That one looks alright, i’m trying to remember what years had what engine, but obviously the later the better. I believe 06 had oil consumption issues (my Z is that year and it eats around a quart every 5K miles or so, so not awful but something to be aware of) but then they fixed it for the 07's.

06 cars made a little more horsepower than earlier ones and redlined at 7K, while 07's actually redline at 7.5K and make a few more hp than the 06 cars.

I’ve done basic maintenance to my car and never had any serious problems. The clutch is a little squidgy if i dont stay on top of changing the fluid all the time.

Personally, i think the platform makes for a good basic “jack of all trades, master of none” performance car. Handles well, accelerates fast enough to get out of its way, is rwd, manual and ultimately a pretty simple vehicle. They are also about as easy to control over the limit as RWD cars come. That said, its unlikely you’ll fall in love with any particular aspect of the vehicle.

That sounds about right. The real problem is o want a Z for the lift back, but I “need” a G for the back seats, Incase I need to take the whole family somewhere in my car. Which in the 3 years I’ve had the Galant has happened maybe 3 times, and only because I said “honey can we take my car?”

Hydraulic clutches make sense in a way, they don’t need much room, but I rather liked the cable clutch on the Fox body mustangs. Simple and the drag hepled smooth the engagement (even though it was a bit more effort)

Oh, i wasn’t suggesting you get a Z, i’m just pretty sure the G35 and the Z are the same in terms of what years got which engines. And i figured any impressions of the Z would hold about 90 percent true for a G35 Coupe.

Anyway, good luck in your search, I hope you get something that you end up loving, regardless if its a G35 or not!
