For those of you who saw my post yesterday about me possibly getting my grandparents’ 2005 Acura MDX if they get a new car, guess what: it’s gone. When it nearly sent them into a guardrail today and the air cut out they just bought a 2018 CR-V. R.I.P. the (my grandpa’s name)mobile, we used to call it. You will be missed, 2005-2017 and took us 176,000 miles. There’s a list of the problems below:

List of problems that made us put it out to pasture:

•A/C and heat failed

•engine damn near cuts off in reverse

•transmission grinding

•violent shaking over 70 mph

•leaking power steering fluid

•hole in muffler/rust

•multiple electrical gremlins (rear taillight dysfunctionality, whole infotainment/navi system dead, flickering headlights, etc.

•brakes grinding even though we replaced the pads last month

•leaks here and there

•trunk latch keeps getting stuck

So yeah, for those of you questioning why they felt unsafe in a 4800lb SUV, that’s why. It sucks, though. This was the first car I ever drove and has been around since I was 2 years old. We’ve been everywhere together and back. Sad to see it go. I miss it already. But their new CR-V isn’t bad though, it’s actually really good for the completely base model. Here’s a pic.

I know right lol but it’s kinda nice I don’t know it might just be me because I’m still 14 and that fanboy side of me is strong...oh and did I mention there was a Type-R at the dealer too?

The base model CRV’s come with alloys? Older ones used to be steelies, I think. Bummer about the MDX - condition-wise, it looks in pretty good shape, but from the list you posted, I’d say it was the right call.

Predictions I have made in the past 24 hours:

1. Doug Jones would win Alabama.

2. Your grandparents would get a CR-V.

Wow!

Sorry they ditched the MDX without letting you have it — might have saved you some pain.

That’s a good color for that CR-V

Yeah. But it was a good car while it lasted. And my dad said those wheels would look better on my ‘13 CR-V EX-L lol

The CR-V is probably close in size to the MDX. I know it has larger dimensions in every way to my Range Rover except in height and ground clearance.

It feels and looks bigger, but the trunk? Hell no. The trunk is half the size of the trunk in the MDX because my grandpa usually kept the 6th and 7th rear seat down. But he doesn’t really use it to carry big things.

I’d say anything north of 150k and you’ve gotten your money’s worth out of that car.

Well if the MDX hasn’t been sold yet, could I snag the motor that controls which vents the air comes out off? I don’t the next owner would miss it with all the other problems :)

Well, it did cost almost $70k.... And there are others still on the road with almost problems and we were on top of service and everything... Still get pissed when I see same year MDXs on the road and think of ours...

dang - was the MDX in a previous accident or something? Sounds like above average issues for one of those... (still nice looking though.) They will be happy with that CRV.

Not in a single accident, ever! It was damn pretty, too. The only rust was on the muffler and that’s it. The leather was a little cracked but who cares? The sound system was awesome and it was fast if you decided to give it gas. All in all, worth the $70k spent on it new. Until depreciation and this magical issues happened. I will always love it though.

No offense, but going from an Acura to a base model Honda seems like a major downgrade. Why didn’t they purchase an RDX? The new CR-V’s are excellent vehicles, I’m just saying that going from a car with power leather seats to cloth manual seats is a jump down.

They’re on a tight budget and yeah, although it doesn’t have nearly as much amenities, at least it drives and doesn’t try to kill them lmao

That’s the most important part. My only issue is that just a couple grand more gets you A LOT MORE when it comes to the CR-V. The difference between LX and EX is enormous; I’m not an authority on this generation, but a 2016 EX gave you a touchscreen, LaneWatch, power driver’s seat, sunroof, heated seats, smart key access and push button start, body colored door handles, decent wheels, fog lights, and there may be more that I’m missing, all of which weren’t on the LX or even the SE. With 2018, I’m pretty sure the jump from LX to EX includes collision and safety systems, yummy yummy.

Still, it’s a fantastic car, and I don’t want to make you or your grandparents feel bad. My mom has a 2016 EX, and it’s not just a great car in general, but also great for carrying passengers. The interior was designed to carry large people and their things.
