Spent the past couple winters with the two 4runners and my r50 pathfinder. Before that was an AWD Volvo S70 which was also a bit of a tank in the snow.

The Acura did great considering I’m still shopping for a set of wheels with winter tires for when the snow picks up. Compared to the GS it seems to be a little more surefooted while turning but not quite as good up low speed hills (rwd vs fwd).

Sure, I miss hooning the pathfinder in empty snowy parking lots. Sure, I’m going to have to stay home when there’s a foot of fresh powder. Maybe my tire tracks don’t look as sweet as the ones left by the old bfg k02. Is it worth it for a car that is better to drive in 99% of weather conditions? You betcha.

Hard not to miss this beauty anyways!

Zero ragrets! The TL tails are basically the opposite of the altezzas. You’re trying to de-altezza while I’m trying to re-altezza...

Nothing like getting the automatic trans when the m/t gets standard brembos and LSD!

The TSX does great in the snow too. It doesn’t snow enough down here for me to get dedicated winters, but the all-seasons on it did fine.

Yeah I’m on worn all seasons (3 different brands, thanks previous owner) and i didn’t lose traction unless I tried. I think it’s a combination of the double wishbone suspension maintaining great contact patch through the full stroke and the front weights bias. The problem with most fwd cars in snow is that they have terrible chassis and floppy sway bars or bad suspension. The Acura’s have the front weight bias while still being able to rotate well so they don’t understeer into snowbanks.

Yeah, my tires are just Carmax specials. I’m going to get Continental DWS06s when the time comes to replace them. The Prelude has them and they’re amazing. Back when it snowed in January I drove it in the snow on worn out summer tires. Somehow I survived. It was absolutely harrowing.

I’m so worried about snow this winter because while it doesn’t often Portland OR it’s been so cold this winter that any precipitation will turn into a few inches of snow. I was lucky because last winter I had my Range Rover but I sold my Subaru to buy my girlfriend a new Jetta and she got stuck really bad a few times because even with snow tires the car was too light to get any traction.

Kinja'd!!!

Over the summer I sold the Range Rover because my girlfriend started working literally 3 blocks away from my main IT client so we could commute every day in the cheap Jetta and I can use the Merc CLS I’m rebuilding for the summer sparingly to save miles and soothe worries. But now I’m worried as fuck because we’ll both get screwed if we get snowed in like last year. The Range was the only car in our neighborhood to get out consistently before we got our street plowed 4 days later and I had to give a ton of people rides/tows on my street alone.

lol now we’ll all be screwed. Might have to use the 4 wheeler to get to a bus station if I wasn’t worried someone would steal it but honestly, I think I’ll be okay with a cheap grand Cherokee or even better a pathfinder or 4runner. What are you guys opinion on the newer body 4runners 04-2013? Hear they aren’t as off-road friendly as the pre 02 facelift

They don’t have an optional locker, but neither did the newer 3rd gen 00-02. The ground clearance is a lot worse but can be remedied easily with springs. Most 4Runner guys dismiss it because it looks like a minivan stock and needs a lift and tires to look right.

A v8 fourth gen has the full time awd though and is incredible in snow.
