I don’t gamble, blow is out, and at this point in my life, I would be embarrassed to walk into a strip club. Plus, I bet a Vegas stripper could empty out a rube like me in no time, and leave my credit cards smoking on the floor. I have been sick, so I took a Day-Quil induced walk around the Strip. This is like Disneyland if Walt had been a degenerate obsessed with hedonism instead of a square obsessed with children’s entertainment.

I had a beer and watched a 90s alt-rock cover band at an outdoor Irish pub. Then I came back to the MGM Grand for dinner at the fancy steakhouse.

You see, I will not drop $600 in the VIP room of a Vegas strip club, and I won’t lose my income gambling. However, they have killer steakhouse here, and I am willing to spend for a good meal.

But first a drink! This is a “double barrel,” recommended by Michael the friendly bartender. It is a fantastic $17 whiskey based cocktail. I wonder what is on the menu?

Jesus H Christ. I never knew there was such a thing as a $275 steak. Fuck. I bet it is good. But I just paid that for a fucking 5MGE cylinder head that will be unbroken after I am dead. Not to be gross, but that steak will be out of my life by tomorrow mornings. Nope. Too many car projects.

So I ordered the “regular” filet. Sorry, Japan, I will spend money on your old cars before spending it on your beef.

Holy crack pipe! I thought Vegas was known for cheap buffets.

I’m with you on all that, but I don’t think I could ever bring myself to pay over a hundo on just a steak.

Man, I want a ribeye now!

I’m a teacher, so on the rare occasion I get to travel on the district’s dime, we have a $35 per meal and $50 per day limit.

I’m in Insurance, I typically restrain myself, but some of the shit I see? It will make you sick. It makes me sick at least.

There’s only a handful of resturaunts in the US that have genuine Kobe beef. It was banned for export for a while.

Vegas food has been pricey for a while now... Other option - fancy drinks at Bellagio or Aria, fountains, in&out burger on Dean Martin Dr.

If you’re in Vegas and you’re not into the strip scene (first off, congrats on your better judgement) go check out Red Rocks conservation area. It’s truly amazing. It’s only like 15min from the strip..

Go drive the loop road (like $6/car) but park at pine creek canyon trail head and hike up into the canyon. 2000 ft sandstone walls, lush waterfalls, it’ll 100% blow your mind.

We did this on our last trip. It was a great decision. We rented a Sentra for a day, and hit Red Rock, the Shelby American factory/museum, then puttered around for the rest of the day, hitting a couple other casinos up the strip. All in I think we spent $30 maybe, which was WAY less then taxis for the day for all the stuff we got to do.

Nice. Yeah... I do a lot of climbing and Red Rocks is one of the most amazing places in the world... We (climbers) always lament that it’s such a shame that’s RIGHT THERE in vegas, as opposed to being somewhere hidden out in the backcountry....

Although there is a benefit to having $4.99 buffets ten minutes from big walls.......

I do enjoy Vegas, but it doesn’t take long for me to get overwhelmed by it. Red Rock made for a great getaway from our getaway. It was stunning to drive for 25 minutes, then look around and see no trace of LV at all.
