I spent 200 bucks on lite coin yesterday at (197), 400 on etehereum (481), and 200 on bitcoin (16766)

Was it worth it?

It was my first time spending any money on cryptocurrency.

I just spent my entire savings on coin. It’s rather low risk for me as I’m just in high school right now. Not much to lose.

Kinja'd!!!

Could be worse, I bought SLB stock back in July of 2014 when it was ~$110 a share and well you can see how that’s worked out for me.

Can’t see it as anything but a huge bubble. That doesn’t mean you can’t make money on it, people obviously have, but the prices seem unsustainable to me.

TBH with just $200 I would have rather just put it in alt coins, but I don’t think you’ll do poorly with what you’ve done.

It was more of just cause they’re on fire right now doesn’t mean they will stay that way. Oil was over $100/bbl then with no end in site, that is until the bottom fell out of the market in late 2014/early 2015.

Re-read. I believe he just dropped $800 total. Diversification!

Way too risky for me. Not saying it’s not worth it, the volatility and lack of fundamentals/research kill it for me. Plus I can’t stop associating cryptos with Dark Web drug sites and money launderers. Guilt by association.

It’s like gambling. never bet more than you are willing to lose. Other than that.... much better than going to a casino IMO

That’s no the Bitcoin logo btw.

Wait for the next dip to buy, Watch the peak on Bitfenix (if it is back up again) and on GDAX. I bought Litecoin at $44 back in June. And mined for a substantial portion of a bitcoin before it hit 5 digits.

Oops, guess I’m still waking up.

And yes, alts are risky, BUT if you can put some time into really researching them, you can pick out some good ones. I made 700% on digibyte last spring, over 1000% on verge, and currently doing pretty well on a few others. The key is to not pick out too many, just find a few good ones and play the market.

Also, I try to only invest in coins that have a good use. DGB was involved in gaming and stuff, siacoin was some type of cloud storage, etc. But yea, crypto itself just gets a bad rep.

Playing with small dollars here, purely my play/speculative side of the portfolio. Pretty amazing how much a $100 investment from January has increased though.

There’s a game out there from Wall street journal I think? Where you start in like 1910 with 10k and you have to try and time when to buy and sell. The only way you win is literally by leaving it alone. No body can time the market right, it’s all just luck.

Win some lose some, still made money (infinite return! (not accounting for electricity cost)) which is more than I can guarantee to all the people buying in now.

It would only take one person with early miner type holdings exiting their position to crash the price.

Well, I’m the guy who remembers hearing about Bitcoin when it was first available in ‘09 and didn’t get off his lazy ass to buy $20 worth to give it a shot...

I can’t imagine buying in now. Like buying gold in 2011, but worse.

Unfortunately, that is not true due the amount of early miners who have sold out and diversified. If the new “bitcoin futures” wall street entities chose to back out it will be funny because they are buying and tradin gon margins based on the speculative thoughts about cryptos. Kind of what they did buying ans selling mortgages.
