I am reminded of POTUS George W. Bush declaring an end of major combat operations in Iraq on board the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln 14 years ago. Will this deal go any better for Mr. Putin?

(If I were POTUS, I’d make a carrier landing and takeoff also. Just sayin’...)

I mean go better in what sense? Will his approval ratings take the same hit? Probably not seeing as how he owns all of the state media. However, does that make it any more true? No, clearly not

Sorry for the delay in responding to you. Kinja has been stupid in recent days.

I never know just how to comment when I post something like this. I’d just let Oppos draw their own conclusions, but then I get modded. I could have been more specific.

As I saw the events, GWB declared the end of major combat and here we are, 14 years later with an exhausted military and several trillions of dollars spent, not to mention hundreds of military lives and uncounted thousands of civilian lives. And I believe that to be a fair assessment, not liberally biased. And I have not mentioned what return, if any, we have received.

I see Mr. Poo-teen trying to do the same: declaring it over and won, and pulling out his troops. Will Russia still be mired in Syria in 14 years? That’s really what I am asking.

I think one of Russia’s goals was to establish a permanent military base in Syria, so they will still be there in 14 years.

Also, I do not think it will go much better for them in Syria than us in Iraq. Both countries will have to stick around in Syria and Iraq for another 14 years to prevent another breakdown or civil war.
