There's one more problem with the Accord I forgot to mention yesterday....

Kinja'd!!!

Picture not really related.

When I pulled over on the side of the road, I rolled my window down and as soon as I hit the switch the window fell down into the door.

If the window isn’t busted can this be DIYed; or does it have to go to a glass specialist?

I think it can probably be DIYed

Yeah typically its a cable with a little plastic clip that attaches, the window sits on that. I think everytime I have seen or heard of this problem, it has been needing new clips

Does the window often break when that happens? Because if the window did break, it might be easier and cheaper to just get a new door from a junkyard.

Taking the door trim off shouldn’t be too hard - if you can pop the trim off wide enough to see behind it, you should be able to see through the holes in the door (or find shards of glass...) to tell if the window broke or not. If broken, new door could be cheaper if you can get one at a PickNPull yard. If not broken, new clips could do it, as mentioned previously?

Not that I have seen. And doors are easy to take apart, just be careful with the clips

If it’s about Honda’s and it’s not EricTheCarGuy, it’s fake news!

This seems really common on Honda’s. We replaced every single window regulator on our 07 Pilot at least once. We never broke a window at least.

The clips seem to be integrated to the window, or at least pressed in there. So if it’s the clips I’ll just need to get a new window. My concern is that since the window fell to the bottom I won’t be able to access those bolts to remove the window.

The thing I’m worried about is how I’m going to get the window out if it’s fallen to the bottom. In the video Junkrat posted, the holes to access the bolts holding in the window are near the top of the door. So the window has to be rolled mostly up to get at them.

So if the window fell it’s the regulator that’s bad?

This happened many times on my wife’s old honda. It never broke was just some latch/clamp that broke. We never fixed it and it worked 99% but about once a year it would fall into the door and I’d have to fix it again.

This is a really easy fix and it happened to my RSX where the cable that the regulator runs snaps so you need a new windows regulator. Normally, 2 screws behind handle and one in the middle of the panel then the panel comes off. Pull the door seal back and then you can take the 2 bolts out of the window and take it out then unbolt the regulator. I’d be careful with harness clips though, try your best not to break them if you cant unclip them from behind. For me its like a 25min job.

What do you mean by latch/clamp? The regulator or the the clip on the window where you bolt it to the door?

Honestly it was 15 years ago so I don’t truly recall but I know that all I ever did was pull off the door card set the window back in place and it would work again. Only really fell off if it bound up while going up or down once we knew the trick we would just put a hand on it as it would go up or down to assist it.

It’s probably the clip that holds the glass to the regulator arm.

It gets old and brittle. Most Honda doors panels aren’t too hard to remove.

You could always trim the sheet metal so you can get better access inside. Plus, weight savings!

He has one, but it’s about replacing the track not the window.

Awesome, so I might not have to replace the regulator! I’ll tear into the door and check it out wednesday after my finals are over.

And maybe convert it to a whindy window, so I can get rid of the switches too!

To get it back in position? There should be plenty of space to work and lift it up yourself. Typically there is a “service” position you will set the window lift to (around half height) that gives you full access to everything. Then you replace the clips, then just lift and place the glass in there. It actually ends up being way easier and roomier to work than you would expect (I have done this on chevys and BMWs at least)

Swing by and do my stereo install, and I’ll try my hand at getting that window working again?

Most of the time yes, it’s basically like a scissor lift. Sometimes It just sorta gives out and won’t come back up.

Other option is your window slipped off the track. It’ll be the same process getting inside the door but you might need nimble fingers to get it up and back on track
