Kinja'd!!!

On Friday morning I captured some of the smoke on my dash cam while driving to work. It is pretty unreal how big that smoke cloud is extending out over the Pacific ocean. Thankfully the fires have not impacted me or anyone I know, but I have heard word of coworkers losing homes in Ventura and all of the news elsewhere. Its a wild thing to experience firsthand in my new home of Socal!

And while uploading some dashcam videos, I also have a quick snapshot of Yerba Buena road that I tried after work as well as a nice round trip run on The Snake at Mulholland Highway.

And funny story, I went on a drive to the Snake in my Miata and immediately got pulled over for a “loud exhaust”. Not speeding or driving recklessly, just out for a nice cruise. And given the lecture on having 10 days upon establishing residency to change my plates. Well since I still have a NJ plate, registration, and license, I will continue to say I am “visiting”. No ticket but that put a hamper on the night since I wanted to get more than one run in. At least I got to drive Latigo afterwards which was fun for sure! The new Star Spec tires on the Miata are VERY fun. Little bit wild in the dark but I think I will try it today in the daylight.

A warning about keeping the NJ stuff: if the same officer sees you multiple times over weeks they can get pissed off and probably write you a substantial fine.

Not saying that will happen, or that I have any clue what the fine is, but don’t want you to get surprised.

Oh yeah, I certainly would not be surprised lol. I figure if I am pulled over again, my days are numbered. It would be impossible to prove that I live there but I wouldnt want to lie about it forever. Its a nonissue so long as I stay away from the Snake with the Miata at police heavy times. Like night time Friday and Saturday or in the afternoon Saturday/Sunday.

I plan to swap out the components, its just not an immediate priority. I dont tend to daily the Miata much at this point anyways. Its certainly a risk either way, but its not uncommon in this area and is manageable for now.

I think getting paint on the car is probably a higher priority. I still need to order some cans so that we can try out some DIY hackjob painting haha.

Still possible, but probably impossible is also getting a ticket if you get pulled over the Subie and you hand over your NJ license. I would only see this happening if the same officer pulled you over twice in the Subie.

If I end up scrapping the Jetta we can practice on some of those panels first so we don’t waste any paint on your Miata. But I really want to practice wet sanding on the Jetta. And fixing clear coat damage.
