I am being paid a handsome fee by a large cattle pharmaceutical manufacturer to give a talk on immigration law at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Wednesday. I really did not want to do it, so I quoted them a high price, but they called my bluff. They fly me to Vegas, give me a room, and pay me too much for an hour presentation. God bless capitalism.

They are taking the group to the rodeo that night, and I took them up on the offer. I have no idea what to expect.

My dad taught me that trick. He was, and still is kinda, a contractor. “If you don’t want to do a job, rake ‘em over the coals with your price. Either you won’t have to do the job, or you’ll be making so much money you won’t care.” That came back to bite him a bit a few years later, when he asked me how much to detail his truck. I considered that payback for when he convinced me to take a pay cut for babysitting my sister. Apparently $2/Hour is as a bit rich for his blood :)

Rodeos are great, they’re fun to watch even if you have no idea what’s going on. I took some classmates who’d never been to one and they had a blast.
