Kinja'd!!!

I feel horrible for this family. Richmond, TX is a suburb of Houston. Altaf Malik, 43, went out on Tue night, Dec 5, to meet an interested buyer to show the Audi (Texas license plate HZX-9910). Sadly, he never returned home. News reports came out today that his body was found. He was stabbed to death by an unknown lowlife. Hoping for swift justice. Am posting this to publicize in hopes the car community keeps an eye out for the car.

I’ll put some serious coin down that this was a hate crime. He was either intercepted somewhere, or he was baited from the start by the potential buyer.

First step is pulling his call records and emails and try to find out who he met and exactly when.

This sucks. I hope they find these people as quick as they found the people that did this a few years ago in Stlouis.

The guy here killed an owner of a 350z during his lunch break and then went back to work.

I kind of doubt it since there’s nothing about his ethnicity in the ad. Probably did it for the car, since it’d be easy to steal since he’d have the keys.

Maybe he talked to someone on the phone before leaving? Even in email exchanges, I use my real name. Like I said, could have happened en route by total strangers... Doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense to kill a guy for an Audi A8L.

Why automatically assume this is a hate crime??

Crime associated with craigslist sales is not uncommon. People have been killed over things worth far less than an Audi A8. I don’t think hate crime should be the default conclusion, unless evidence suggests so.

Ugh...CL associated murders are more common than I realized. Found this blog that tracks them: http://craigslistkillings.blogspot.com/

Wasn’t aware of that one. Found the story...very sad: http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/murder-trial-for-st-louis-man-in-craigslist-killing-begins/article_5d6e5dc4-6d3a-56d5-83e9-e3314b2e149d.html

Or really in any high-traffic area, like a Whole Foods or a Starbucks.

People still steal 90s Hondas for parts. And people get killed over much pettyier shit, so an A8L wouldn’t surprise me.

Plus I kind of doubt the type of person to have $100k to spend on an Audi would be the same kind of person to kill someone over there ethnicity. Even if they were super racist they just have too much too loose at that point and probably not the skill or balls to actually do it.

Why would the buyer have 100k income? The car is listed for 13.5k...

That’s kind of what doesn’t make sense on the surface. Killing a guy for 9 year old, not really desireable, certainly not rare, German luxobarge that costs half the price of a loaded new Civic sedan? It might be a waste of time to rationalize murder, but doing it for this car — or pretty much any car — has zero logic.

The parts though. I imagine it’s the kind of car that there’s not a lot of aftermarket support for and rare enough that’s it’s not like you can go to a junkyard to get them. Plus the fact that’s it’s old means it’s probably trickled down to owners who got it after reading a Tavarish article, but weren’t prepared for the maintenance.

For example. The motor that controls were the air goes on my 98 Accord isn’t available from any parts store. You have to go either to the dealer or the junkyard for it, and like I said A8's aren’t going to be something that’s common in junkyards like an Accord.

There was a case like this that made national news in Canada in the recent years.

They took someones life over a vehicle worth a couple of grand.

OR, only meet people at police stations to conduct craigslist transactions.
