I now second the motion that when doing 0-60 times they should include the time to activate launch control/sport mode/ludicrous mode, etc like a sort of LeMans start.

As I said in the comments on the FP, this almost seems like a another Top Gear dig on the Tesla...

What bugs me is the convoluted bullsh*t manufacturers make you go through to turn off traction control, launch your car, etc.

Hold brake, press traction control button, shift into 2nd, half-press traction control while simultaneously kicking the clutch and biting the passenger door handle, slowly release brake, slide seat back, switch into 4-lo, shut the car off and wait for an hour

The ludicrous mode is easy to activate... the ludicrous + mode is hidden because it requires batteries to be warmed up...

Why? It’s not exactly unreasonable to expect someone to give your ICE engine a few minutes to warm up before going HAM with it on a track, and even if you just do a ‘regular’ ludicrous mode launch without the warm up the Tesla will still be pretty quick.

It’s not the warming up, but all the buttons and stuff. I’m not just talking about the Tesla, but all these cars were you have to do an intentionally asinine process to do launch control. They make it a pain in the ass so no one will actually use it in real life, but the magazines can get the small numbers. But publishing how long it takes to activate said modes would show if it’s actually practical to use.

I think you missed the sacrificing a goat step in there. Or in the case of the first run of Nissan GT-Rs, a transmission.

Counterpoint: Mustangs at cars and coffee crashing due to TC off.

Oh good point... Maybe they should have a MORE complex TC OFF process. Like requiring the driver to spell “Camaro”

It’s not for ‘real life’. Nobody wants you using launch control on the street. It’s for use on a drag strip where you have the time to set it up and need the extra .2 seconds launch mode will get you.
