Just saw this picture of the 2018 Mustang instrument panel on Ford’s website. Seems like they slipped in a couple references to vintage Mustangs. Hardcore Mustang fans... are any of the other numbers significant?

Insert joke about how it’s dangerous to take a photo while driving.

Someone who should be taking photos less and shifting more.

I was in a tunnel, you can’t not redline it in a tunnel.

I like how the analog and digital speedometers don’t even try to display the same number.

er, they do... the needle is halfway between the (unlabled) 50 mph tick mark and the (labeled) 60 mph one. Ergo 55 mph.

edit: oh, you were talking about E90's pic. never mind...

Am I the only one who is more interested in the fact that 2600rpm in 7th gear can’t possibly result in a speed of 55mph?

Any particular reason why not? It’s a 10 speed.

Aren’t 7th and up supposed to be overdrives? A specific 1995 Maxima 5-speed without any sort of overdrive doing 55 in top gear is also at 2600rpm. Why is there a need for such short 1st to 7th gear?

I mean it is, it’s just not a Mustang-relevant one.

I don’t really know, that could be a Performance Pack car.

Maybe the digital is one of those that update every slightly-less-than-a- second or so.

I came to say the same thing. I could look up the ratios and do math in a spreadsheet, but I think we can just say that it’s a pic created for marketing.

It’s in Drive with the D highlighted in between the numbers. The 1964.5 Mustang with the HiPo 289 was vin code “D”.
