Let’s see if the Canadians understand how to run a bus service between two major cities. For the price of a ticket they definitely should... Also I hope it’s a bit of a smooth ride, as I have only slept 1,5 hours tonight, so a bit of sleep would be welcome.

Any recommendations for things to see/do in Montréal, I’ll be there for 2 days.

I’m going to miss poutine when I go back :(

For the price of a ticket they definitely should..

Do note that Coach Canada/Megabus tickets cost more to buy the closer it is to your departure date. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are always cheapest ($20-something, even when near departure).

Go to “La Banquise” for the poutine... It’s opened 24-7. Try to go there while drunk if possible... Makes it that much better. I used to live 100m away from it.

I second Peter. Proper poutine, deli sandwiches, and fresh bagels if you’re near central Montreal. The Old City also has some pretty good cuisine if you dont mind a bit of a walk. FYI, the VIA train service from Toront-Montreal is pretty decent and affordable too (I think it’s 5-8 hours and free wifi for $94)

Yeah I should have decided earlier, but I decided on monday that I wanted to spend a few days in Montréal before leaving Canada.

Ooh didn’t expect there would be a place selling poutine in the Netherlands. I guess I have to check that out when I’m back!

Thanks for the suggestion! It looks to be relatively close to the airbnb I rented, so going there drunk definitely is a possibility, haha

Man, if I were still living in Montreal, we’d be going there drunk together haha

Poutine and smoked meat at a deli like Schwartz or Rueben’s - of course.

Go see the Once Upon a Time... The Western at the MBAM (Fine Arts Museum): https://www.mbam.qc.ca/en/exhibitions/on-view/once-upon-a-time-the-western/

Bagels from Fairmount Bagels (on Fairmount) or St-Viateur Bagels (on St-Viateur) - my preference is St-Viateur. I’ve probably just started a religious war.

Go up top of the Mount Royal and see the sights from the two lookouts - one looking east over the city towards the Olympic Stadium, the other looking south (more or less) over downtown.

Restaurants - there are a billion restaurants of every type in this city, some of them just literal holes in the wall. You’re sure to find something you like.

Tonight at 7pm the Edmonton Oilers are in town playing at the Bell Centre. That’s my home team! Go grab a ticket from the scalpers on the sidewalk and enjoy some NHL action. Then head out to party on Crescent Street at places like the Sir Winston Churchill with all the other tourists.

Hmm, I’ve probably missed a ton of ideas. Enjoy your stay here!

Should’ve trained it. Bussing works, you just have to hope your head doesn’t get cutoff.

Thanks for all the ideas! I’ll see how many of them I can fit in next to the things I already wanted to do.

Thanks! It’s quite a nice city, though I don’t yet get why people compare it to Europe, haha.

I’d rather not know...

What I did notice is that the European style double decker busses megabus uses are taller than most semi-trailers (In Europe the semi trailers are a bit taller)

What did you end up doing with your weekend, finally? The Internet demands more information!

If you made it to the Old City, you will have gotten a more European vibe from the city. But I agree that it’s not as good as the real Europe... :)

Yeah, my opinion changed after going to the old city, it’s really nice there, very similar to cities in France and Belgium. But for me as a European, nothing is better than the real thing, haha

On saturday I walked over mount Royal to st. Josephs Oratory. After than I went to Old Montreal, and walked a architecture viewing route (got it out of a Lonely Planet guide). Also went into the Notre Dame, and into a museum about the first French settlements in the city (I’m a bit of a nerd). I ended my evening by going to a jazz bar (Upstairs) which a friend of mine recommended.

Today, I went to St-Viateur for a bagel, and bought some cheese curds and bagels for a friend. Then I went to the Musée des beaux-arts to see the western exhibition you suggested (it was great btw, didn’t know the history of western movies was that interesting). After that I went in search of some proper Montreal poutine, and now I’m waiting on my bus back ‘home’.

Thanks again for the suggestions!
