While pretty, the snow was really wet. For those who don’t know snow, that means it’s really heavy and packs well. Now we have lots of tree branches breaking, sometimes taking power lines with them. In areas where the trees hang over the road, the additional load has them hanging really low where they can get hit by big trucks.
To top it all off, it didn’t warm up as expected and we will have freezing temps tonight. That means ice everywhere tomorrow morning.
All that may not mean much up north, but this is a mess for a southern state! Time to stay home!

One of the snowstorms last year dropped so much heavy, wet snow it killed a transformer. Said transformer lit up the sky with an eerie blue-green glow.
It was kind of spooky.

Even better when EVERY transformer within a dozen blocks or so lights up because of a hurricane going on. Literally sounds and looks like some sort of alien invasion or warzone.

Up north we get the wet snows and shit breaks. I guess we get used to power outages and such.

Louisiana. Down here people don’t learn how to drive in it. Nobody has winter tires. Most don’t even have ice scrapers for their windshields. I just learned we have ONE truck for salting the Mississippi River bridge so they can keep I-10 open.
A hint of snow or ice and the whole place shuts down. This time wasn’t as bad as 2008 (?) when we had a major ice storm, but the wet snow did some damage.

I was driving home from work in the middle of one of the storms last year and I watched an entire city block go dark as I drove through it.
