A few months ago I drove my buddy’s turbo BRZ. 400whp, e85, WHOOOSH noises. It was amazing.

Fast forward to this week, I made a decent profit on some Bitcoin I mined two years ago and now I want a turbo BRZ. I’m looking at the JDL kit with an upgraded GT2860R. The guys at JDL and some other owners say that I’ll need minimal supporting mods (clutch, oil cooler, etc.) and no modifications to the internals or fuel system. My goals are 275-300whp and a quick spool (~3000-3500rpm?).

I’m very excited. Hopefully it’ll all be put together by my birthday in June.

Funny, I made a good chunk of change on alt’s and btc and I’m thinking of getting upgraded hybrid twin turbos for my 335i and an LSD.. the responsible part of me is wanting to just keep investing, but man 500whp with no lag sounds VERY appealing.

Whoosh noises are fun, but if I was building a BRZ I wouldn’t go with a turbo.

I’ve driven a 500+whp turbocharged FR-S and a ~300ish whp supercharged BRZ, and it wasn’t even a comparison. The supercharger just felt right . The turbo felt stock until about 3500rpm when it basically sucked your insides out. Fun, but terrifying.

The turbo’d FR-S had 40k+ pretty hard miles on it without much issue, and the supercharged BRZ had almost that many but with a few track days. Both held up well, but the whoosh noises weren’t worth the pretty terrifying turbo lag.
