Kinja'd!!!

Everything is going to be just fine, guys. My car has a snow mode :rolls eyes:

Too bad I’m on all-season run-flats. Oh well

P.S: why must you rotate my image, Kinja?

Please tell me you don’t have DAS.

Snow mode doesn’t do shit. Especially on bald summer tires with a terrible driver. I know because I tried to help a QX56 up a hill. It wasn’t happening at all.

I do not. Test drove a model with that and hated it

I think Kinja unrotates it if you post. Makes no sense, but it sometimes does that with my cell photos.

Yep. Pretty much useless. Seems like all it does is reduce theamount of throttle versus normal

I work in insurance, and the amount of times I’ve heard, “I don’t need winter tires because I have AWD;” or, “I’m in the Toronto area, we don’t get much snow,” really frustrates me. There’s a gross misunderstanding in the public about how AWD works - even a fancy ATTESA system can’t save you if your tires are shit (and having driven on all-seasons through a winter, even new ones are not good).

You might be able to get away with doing this in some US states with mild winters (i.e. temperature drops below optimal for all-seasons, but weather remains mostly dry with very little snow/ice) but the fact that we have Canadians saying this is just pure ignorance. Vancouver is the only place you might be able to get away with this, but I think the city gets pretty fucked up if it gets a lot of snow (which, relatively, is not that much for Ontario).

With the growing popularity of these kinds of drive modes, it’s inevitable that I’ll get a client who will tell me their car has “winter mode” and AWD so they don’t need snow tires.

It probably changes the power distribution too.

I’m completely with you there. Normally I have two sets of tires but I really wasn’t expecting any form of snow or ice in Atlanta. LOL.

The best I can do for today is Drive extra cautiously and defensively. RWD,terrible all-season run-flat tires.I know I’m too much speed or one wrong move away from ending up in a ditch. Hopefully the jackasses around me don’t cause any more accidents

It’s a “luxury” car.

Read the word luxury as: gussied up Nissan with some toys and gadgets and leather spattered here and there

Apart from anything else, snow tires cost you almost nothing overall because they save wear on your other tires. Combined with the discounts insurance companies give, why the heck WOULDN’T you put them on?

Don’t make sense to me m8

Phew, thank god. I had to drive a few with DAS for work and I couldn’t believe that Nissan had implemented a technology that makes me angrier than CVT transmissions do.

Holy shit, you weren’t kidding. I like how that’s enough for a “winter storm warning” from only 1-2 inches of snow. I had a friend who had moved to the US (I think it was Virginia) where school got cancelled even with an inch or two of snow. Here, it’s tough to get school cancelled unless were talking at least 30cm of snow (so maybe about a foot) and even then, schools will remain open, it’s just school bus service that’s cancelled.

If you’re a working man like me, you’re dreaming if you think employers will tell you to stay home on those days.

I know, I have people say it’s not worth it, but not only are you safer, but you’re potentially making it safer for those around you plus what you had mentioned about tire wear and insurance.

Even if you can’t afford top of the line Michelins or Bridgestones, even a decent set of Hankooks will be affordable and way better than a rock hard all-season or, god forbid, summer tire.

There’s two ways that rotation data is recorded—one is by actually changing the data and the other is just by changing the exif tags to the photo to let the viewer know which side is up. Cell phones tend use the tag method, and in my case the side of the phone they seem to think is “up” is just the wrong way to hold it for good pictures.

Older viewers tend to use the method of actually editing the photo data. If you open the photos in Microsoft Office Picture Manager for example, they will show upside down because it doesn’t read the exif. However if you rotate the image, the newer viewers will display upside down.

That’s the gist of it, but why kinja uses one method for the editor and the other for the post I have no clue.

I know the feels...roads are slippery here, and I passed a slow Prius a little too exuberantly a couple nights ago and things got a liiitttttle squirrelly. Too much gas, not enough tire.
