$9300 for a brand new Chevrolet Spark. Yes it’s a base model and a Spark but still for under $10,000 it’s cheap.

I believe the Versa has a lower MSRP, that’s discounted almost 4k!

I remember back in the 80's the Suzuki Samurai was selling for just under 10 grand. Like $9999 or thereabouts. So yes, considering inflation, that Chevy is exceedingly cheap.

That said, there are roughly 10 brazilian used cars I’d buy before even considering that Spark even for a second.

Which reminds me..what happened to the $3000 Nissan they were supposed to be coming out with?

Cheapest new cars by MSRP, $14k or less:

Nissan Versa - $11,990
Hyundai Accent - $12,245
Chevy Spark - $13,050
Mitsubishi Mirage - $13,395
Ford Fiesta - $13,660
Kia Rio - $13,900

Yep, even the famously cheap Yugo would cost $9,329 in today’s dollars, making it nearly exactly the same price as this Spark.

Here’s a $9130 Mirage (there’s actually sub-$9k Mirages, but with a requirement to take Mitsubishi financing).

But, if you don’t care about fuel mileage, or you want a manual, and you want to pay about $1000 less (assuming you qualify for a shit-ton of stacked rebates), here’s a $8191 Forte with a manual.

Not cheap enough, and you’re a member of the Farm Bureau, American Quarter Horse Association, ex-military, a college student, a first responder, trading in another Ford, and have USAA? Here’s a $6947 Fiesta with a manual.

Can an argument be made that new cars shouldn’t be made at this price point? I can’t think of a single scenario that makes sense to buy a $10k new car vs a $10k pre-owned one. Even the warranty issue is easily quashed if you go with a three year old Accord or Camry that will run forever with basic maintenance. Add to that the additional safety, comfort, technology, performance, etc. and you start to look foolish if you go with the new Spark instead.

Easy argument to make in favor of these.

“I want a NEW car but I’m broke.”
