Why do I do this to my body

Did my first proper workout in years. I think my body is just held upright by fluid pressure and not muscle.

Squats - bar weight is enough.

Tried crunches on the incline bench, turns out my gut is all gut and no muscle.

Tried a dumbbell press, I can only do about 15-20lbs less than I used to do years ago.

Tried wide grip pull ups, I can’t do it at all without the assist machine.

But you know what? I still feel good for starting; I’ve been a sedentary blob for too long. Not fat, just useless, but I’m gonna try to change it.

Now, I’m gonna relax on my day off and binge watch The Crown.

Any sort of movement is good.

It’s amazing how quickly a persons muscles atrophy. I’m a slim guy and worked a hard seasonal job would gain between 5-10lbs in the Summer and it’d be gone after Winter.

Keep it up.

Good for you. I’ve been hard at it for 3 months now and my conditioning and fitness are at a level I am happy with. I’m now working on cleaning up my diet so the weight will start dropping.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s generous to call mine “muscles” at this point. Day-to-day, I really didn’t notice how much strength I’ve lost. Sure, I’ve become decent at Mario Kart, Breath of the Wild, and Overwatch, but at the cost of nearly everything in my body.

I know I’ve done something right since most of my body has that “looseness” you feel after a workout where you feel weaker than before you started.

Diet is the one thing I’ll have a difficult time changing - I eat garbage. I don’t eat a lot (I generally just try to watch incoming calories) but when I do eat, it’s usually not very healthy. I need to learn to really appreciate vegetables - proteins are not the problem. The only major rule I have is limiting sugary drinks, whether it’s juice, sugar in my coffee, pop, etc. It’s come to a point where I may have one pop in a month (and I usually can’t finish one can, purely out of guilt) and a jug of juice will probably last me a couple of months.

Nice job man! Keep at it, a few weeks in and it’ll all come back. It’ll be worth it in a few months!

I’m hoping to see some positive effects in a few months, too.

Limiting carbs would help too. Carbs turn to sugar when they break down.

The key is just consistency. You have to make sure you keep going. Personally, after a few weeks it becomes fun for me. I start to see improvements then it just motivates me to keep going.

My favourite food group. It doesn’t help that even though I’ve cut out soda, my next favourite drink is beer. I mean, I do love whiskey and that’s probably better from a carb & calorie standpoint, but sometimes you just need a refreshing beer or three. The carb + alcohol punch really leaves you feeling bloated, amongst other things.
