After waffling on doing it myself for weeks I’m taking the Fit to a mechanic for the 60,000 mile transmission fluid change. Turns out I have more money than time, or desire to lie on my back under a car during the winter, for that matter.

Something boring but necessary, swapping out windshield washer fluid for some cold weather fluid. Mine’s all frozen and slushy now. I’ll probably take the Cougar out for a spin since it’s supposed to be decent weather.

Hopefully just putting some miles on the M3, it beckons to be driven.

This pic here is from when I did that last week. Not so much for cold weather fluid but refilling the wiper fluid though.

I want to weld the door skin on the door itself and fit it on the car. Maybe start working on the other door too, but that’s a maybe

I have to go haul the battery out of my mom’s Ram to charge it so it doesn’t damage the brand new alternator and then figure out why the new serpentine seems to be an inch too short to fit.

I should find new bolts for my loose heat shield and install them so it stops rattling. It needs 4 and currently only has 2. I can’t find them online so far.

I was going to do an oil change and tire rotation on the Quest and Focus but we’re supposed to get 6" of snow and I dont have a garage.

Eh, I might throw a new valve cover gasket on the race car. I’ll also probably help a friend get the charred remains of his minivan out of an arroyo, onto my trailer and to the junk yard.

This is why I don’t change my own oil haha.

ran out just this morning, of course it’s a sloppy wet morning commute

Discovered that my tail light was out on my Miata yesterday, and when I went to look at it, it was not the bulb. Seems to be a wiring issue since it would go on/off depending on how I jiggled it. I wanted to drive the car today but my commute definitely needs lights so I had to leave it home today. Meaning I definitely have to fix that when I get home.

Also would like to look at my brakes since they are squealing when they get hot enough. And then that just leaves the oil leak and cam sensor to deal with but those are later problems. More importantly I need to order a starter for the STi before it strands me someplace or damages my flywheel.

Otherwise I hope to drive not wrench. These fires need to die down though since I wanted to head to Angeles Crest.

Dry as a bone in Broomfield, so no moisture to deal with for me at least.

I’ve got to fire up the s2000 to get to the attic. After that I need to change the oil and filter and that’s it for the season. Looks like snow has come early and it is time to put her away.

So sad!

was an odd one last night. a mile south of my house I was slipping and sliding and changing my dinner plans because it was an ice rink.
a mile north it was just wet. and a mile further as you say, dry as a bone.

typical CO weather

I do my own oil, but the Fit is next level easy. We’re talking “Drain Plug Here” stamped into the oil pan, drainage channels from both the filter and the plug to keep the mess down, and (the thing that makes doing the transmission super undesirable) no messing with plastic trays or clips and any point in the process. And though I still need to jack it up, the Fit actually has more ground clearance than my BMW or my Subaru did...

HOPEFULLY determine if the Disco needs a new alternator, tensioner, or both.

Also adjust the timing and fix the heat on the Saab.

I will be finshing the welding on the driver’s side sill and floor pan of the Range Rover. I am planning an all day garage-a-thon on Sunday so I can declare the car “rust free” and with a full floor (KNOCK ON ALL THE WOOD YOU CAN).

This humble dream of mine has taken a long time, but I think I can get there on Sunday. Might be too cold to put down primer, but just to get the metal welded in would be huge.

Here’s a pic of the A-pillar base that I got done this week. I CAN SEE THE LIGHT!

Helping my brother wrench on his Saab. All the pulleys are up against the firewall thanks to that backwards engine, and the crank pulley has to come off to replace a sensor back there. The engine won’t run again until that’s dealt with.

I’m hopefully fitting the rest of the suspension to my Spit6 project and replacing all of the wiring in the boot of my Jag that got melted when I set light to the puddle of petrol that was sitting in the bottom of the boot...

Are you crimping the door skin over the lip on the inner skin and then doing a few tacks to hold it in place? That’s the usual procedure.

Just wanted to check as I’ve tried to weld large pressed steel door skins and the heat added tends to relieve the stamping tensions and they go all wibbly. Certainly not going to happen from just a few tacks along the edge, but might if you’re seam-welding the outside or something...

I know! A few years ago I had my Miata too down on Christmas Eve. This year it’s supposed to snow today.

It all depends on when the put down the brine, as to when the season is over.

Yes I said weld but only the two upper ends are welded, the rest is folded over the edge! I tried to repair the old skin by welding patches and it badly warped the metal

I was thinking like a hardware store, do you mean like an auto parts store?

I have to jack the car up to get to the heat shield for the exhaust. Hopefully I can borrow my brothers car or get a friend to drive me to the store so that I don’t have to drive around with just one bolt and have to jack it up again.
