[Update] Well, dang. Since our corporate offices are up north where it snows all the time, they scoffed at our snow day declaration. Never mind that the people here don’t have the experience driving on snow and ice. Forget the fact that we don’t even have the equipment to clear the roads or lay down sand or salt. Ignore the fear! Get your asses to work!

If you can’t tell, the red is in all the wrong places. Normally it would be

At least I had a chance to do some snownuts in a big parking lot on the way in!

Kinja'd!!!

(Yeah, I know, I should have removed all the snow before coming in. But it’s really wet and heavy and I don’t own a snow brush. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.)

______________

This is such a rare occurrence here in Baton Rouge, they’ve shut the place down. No school, no work (well, work from home if you can). I’d head in for work, but these bozos don’t understand how to drive on this stuff. Funny thing is, there’s no ice or slush. Just having funny white stuff falling from the sky is enough to short-circuit the part of their brains that allow them even marginal control of their cars. No thanks, boss. I prefer to avoid the locals when the skies get flurries.

Kinja'd!!!

Enjoy the day off!

All while me begging it to snow here up north... the warm temperatures were killing my winter tires.

If it snowed like that in the 98% of Oz where such a phenomenon is climatically impossible then I’d think the US state of Georgia could very well be full of zombies.

The Houston area is still open for bid-ness. No ice, no problems.

Sadly, a couple inches of white stuff still short circuits 90% of the brains up here near Boston. Its a mad combination of people who still want to go 75 mph and others at 30 on the highway.

Supposed to get 2-4cm on Saturday apparently... guess when I’ll be out of town and away from my truck?

Yup. :(

At least you get the day off. My wife and I work in banking and yet, for some stupid reason, we have to go in.

I saw that on the forecast on Wunderground, but that got revised down 0 mm now. Although temperatures are in the colder range.

Birmingham laughs at your inability to handle snow down there. All our schools are closed, but still! Shut up.

Kinja'd!!!

Update: road is actually accumulating a bit, but it won’t last. It barely hit freezing last night, so the road is still warm.

And here in CO, we’re still waiting for our first significant snowfall of the year on the front range. I think our last snow was 52 days ago, or something like that.

N o t necessary this time around, but we’ve had years where the roads were turned into ice rinks.

T he call to close the schools down came yesterday simply because it’s really hard to predict what we’re going to get. Better safe than sorry.

The real problem with snow in the south is that poeple don’t have the right tires.

And I guess no one has snow/ice scrapers in their cars. Uh

The real problem is not the tires or the scrapers or the lack of equipment to deal with accumulations. It’s the lack of education and experience. People down here don’t learn how to drive in inclement weather. Even a moderate rainfall results in wrecks, shutting down our freeways.

I cant even imagine what happens when there is weather here in Los Angeles. I havent seen anything resembling weather yet (unless fire counts) but on a normal day traffic seems to be insane in some places. I just want to imagine what a flurry of snow would do here.

When I did 100 Acre Wood Rally in Missouri in 2015 we were hit by an unexpected snowstorm. We didn’t have enough snow tires so we went to some of the tire places, three different places said not only did they have nothing in stock but they didn’t think they’d ever sold a snow tire before. We ended up buying some used rubber off another team. On the second day the final loop of the rally was cancelled because five locals driving one of the roads we use for the transit managed to slide off the road into the same ditch, each minutes apart from the other. When we got back to the hotel that night we found a massive pileup on the highway right in front of the building.
