Cavalier for potential spoilers.
This was a great episode of television, and played off the strengths of the first season while cutting down on the bad bits of the first season. This felt a lot like the Italy episode in my opinion, and that was one of the best episodes of the first season.
Few gripes though;
1. The whole “wellness retreat” gag felt like filler. It was mildly funny though.
5. The intro music is annoying still.
4. James May looks weird with short hair and it feels like I’m watching a late 90s episode of Ye Olde Top Gear .
5. Richard Hammond should fucking shave already. I think he actually has, but still. The goatee does not work.

The TGT track was frustrating. No sense of speed at all, and that F-Type is going to be beat to shit by the end of the season.

I didn’t like the rallycross track when they had it on Top Gear, either. I think the only way to properly do rallycross is to have multiple celebrities racing each other at the same time, not going for lap times.
The beginning of that trip was forgettable, like all that stuff going through town and eating salads and stuff. Once they started the drag racing and hill climb, the show got back to business showing off fast cars.
The acceleration of that Rimac was tremendous. I don’t get why Hammond didn’t slow down after the race, though.
Still, a decent episode overall.

I enjoyed it as well. They’ve completed the transformation to Top Gear in a Tent, and I’m ok with that.
I liked last season’s version of the intro music, but this season’s, no. I don’t care one way or the other about his facial hair, but Hammond needs to stop dying the hair on his head. It’s getting darker, and looks ridiculous.

Difference being that the Jaaaaag is being waled on by people who have no clue what they’re doing. With the maintenance costs for tires, wheels, trim, underbody pieces, suspension bits, and everything that’ll eventually get shaken loose they might as well be buying a new car every season.

This is a good take. I suspect they probably will be buying (or be gifted) a new car each season and the current one may not even hold up well for this season which is probably part of why they went to the head to head format instead of keeping a leaderboard of times.

I suspect the head-to-head was for legal reasons. They have a no-compete arrangement with Top Gear, if they ranked their guests on a leaderboard it would be too similar to SIARPC and there would be legal troubles for TGT.

Do you think that has something to do with they they axed the American? The bit was cheesy so I won’t miss it, but maybe it was too close to the Stig driving all the reviewed cars around a common track?

I think that was just axed because it was so poorly received. As much as they don’t want to admit, the U.S. is a massive portion of their audience. A character dedicated to lampooning us wouldn’t have been good for long-term ratings.
