I’m struggling to compare this to RPM’s C63 engine ID - - looks to me like it has the wrong color intake but I *think* the right color valve covers (?). Hard to tell the latter in the light though...

Got the black valve covers and it’s a 2012, so I think it’s the engine with the upgraded head studs.

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking, though the lighting in the photo isn’t very good. What threw me off a little bit is that the intake is very light colored.

Nope...I test drove one and the E92 M3. I liked the M3 better.
It is fast, loud and that is about it for me on the C63.

Yeah, I’d be a little hesitant to go back since I got out. That’s one reason I didn’t take either of those frac engineer jobs, that and I’m not getting any younger and don’t want to waste another 3 years working in the field. A non-field job thought? I could overcome my hesitations.

I get the desire. There have just been so many layoffs around here and a lot of those jobs haven’t come back. Some engineers are moving industries to find work. Our new engineer here just came from a energy industry services company and it was really bad before he got let go. Like no work for months, lots of benefits cut. The possibility of going through that sounds like hell to me.

I got laid off from a service company and spent 11 months unemployed, it was pretty terrible. Now that I’ve had work outside of oil, I’d be less worried if I was to go back and get laid off again.

It is an updated engine but does not have the performance pack which is why the intake is lighter.

Because they can make more money if it’s an option, I suppose. I thought you could get an LSD separate from the performance package, though, and it’s an option you’re going to want—you should get somebody to run a build sheet for this VIN if you’re seriously interested.

Yeah, I basically misread your original comment, thinking that the intake color mattered on the head bolt issue - it’s the valve covers to look at, the intake tells you something else- thanks!

If I had to replace the M3, it’d be another M car. If it’d be in addition to the M3, I’d certainly have an interesting choice. I’ve bought 3 cars in my life, all BMWs. I’m starting to feel the need for a little variety. That said, my cars are about perfect and it’d be really hard to replace either.

I don’t know of any non-AMG Mercedes that have a limited slip, unless we’re taking G-wagen with lockers. But yeah, they should definitely all have them.

I’ve owned four cars in my life, a 1997 Explorer, 2011 M3, 2012 128i, and a 2009 328i. The BMWs are the only cars I’ve bought, and if push came to shove, my next car is probably going to be a BMW. I’m really liking the LCI 4 series, I might have to get one of those next. That said, the 3 is shaking off the miles; I’ve put 20k miles on it since March.
