One of my friends bought a car from Houston for around $2k. A clean 2008 Cadillac CTS that ran rough but starts and runs with I think he said about 50k miles. No signs of interior water damage but it definitely got submarined. He had to get two connecting rods , two pistons and gaskets for the 3.6. We’ll see if he finds any other issues.

A Cadillac CTS picture for your time here, its not his car. I haven’t even seen the Caddy yet but I know its gray.

That’s not much off of what they usually go for around here in the midwest. They usually run about 4k or so. It would have to be a really special car or free for me to take a flood car. With that said, I wish your buddy the best of luck.

Haven’t heard the story behind the purchase yet but pretty certain it was from an auction site. He may have just been lucky to get it for a low bid. Engine goes back in maybe tonight.

Are you serious? The 2008-09 vintage is running at about $10k on the east coast. For $2k I’d buy a flood car right now as a back-up vehicle.

For $2k he could have gotten a clean title’d, perfectly running Crossfire!

*with minor issues

I forgot that the 08's were a new generation. They appear to be running around 7ish here.

Just remember that buying long distance and flood damaged they could need more a few thousand to fix and have a branded title that makes them harder to sell later. The other consideration is water into ABS systems, wiring, bearings etc if the car sat in water for any length of time.

Good morning Dave, I’d be very reluctant to take a flood car under any circumstances. I’ll be interested to see how this pans out for your friend. I love that Cadillac body style, but I’d rather have a CTS-V, but I imagine I’d need a pretty big maintenance budget if I had one.

In other news: please see these rims:

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/wto/d/chevy-rally-wheels-15x7-no/6417010927.html

Seller says this about those rims in an email:

They are an FW code early 70's Monte Carlo wheel. 5x4.75 with 4.25 back spacing. The front tires are 205/60/15 and rears are 225/60/15. They are only good for rollers. They came on my 69 camaro project.

These would fit my ‘71 Vandura for certain, I think, but would the holes be big enough to allow 1/2-inch studs?

Yes, 3.6 but it was cheap and he owns a small repair shop. I’ll be waiting patiently on future calls for failed parts.

Made for 7/16" stud so I’m not sure if they’d have the clearance.

Good morning. I just went and picked them up. The guy’s a machinist and he said the holes were 0.590 inch. I just drove down and picked them up. Tires are crap, but rims are period-correct and will provide a good look.

It’s a bit of a quandary. When I got the van, it had 14-inch steel rims that were so rusty the tires wouldn’t seal and hold air. The rims I have I found at the swap meet for $100 or$150. But they make it wanna be a shag can which is the diametrical opposite of what I want. These rims will be custom, but period-appropriate. Next will be to decide what color to paint them...
