Politics, sort of.
The more I interact with this woman, the more admiration and respect I have for her. Last night she opened class by telling us she had to cancel class on Monday the 11th because she is testifying to congress on behalf of the Special Olympics regarding Medicaid cuts and how they’ll negatively impact special education programs. Basically, a huge amount of funding for special education programs - the right to which are guaranteed by IDEA - is provided by Medicaid.
She also told us her internship in college - she was a Theater major - was working for Mr. Rogers at WQED in Pittsburgh. She grew up using a wheelchair because of cerebral palsy. Now she does triathlon and trains teachers how to engage students with physical disabilities in their classes.
She’s also a Catholic mom of two boys, so she should have a unique talent for inducing guilt in males who are doing things they shouldn’t.
