Been meaning to get one of the regular cleans done for two weeks, weather keeps stopping play. Went up even with the rain and heavy winds anyway to get it done.

Her son had asked if I was going up and she replied yes, so got a lift to work and left his car (very new driver hence cheap car that’s seen a few better days) for me to give a going over.

Both just exterior cleans of body, glass and wheels, sealed and dried, buffed, tyres sheened and door shuts cleaned and dressed.

I was about to say “a Fiesta with Honda wheels?” but then I realized I’m stupid and that there’s actually two cars here.

Why isn’t the driveway paved? That would probably allow the cars to be cleaner.

Not my house I’m afraid.

It’s only a small driveway off the main road. The house itself is literally 20 or so metres from the road.

The dirt is mostly traffic film of benzene deposits and road salt and road debris that has bonded together during typical driving.

Oh okay, thank you for clarifying. I notice that a lot of roads in Europe look like they’re rocks (like this driveway) or are made of gray bricks. When I take my RAV4 on an unpaved surface, the undercarriage becomes dirty, so that’s why I was wondering.

My parents’ cars still get dirty like that just from driving around on paved roads, so I understand how that Fiesta got dirty now.

The sheer amount of foul weather keeps the dust from driving on gravel at bay.

Coming off the main road they’d only be doing 5 or so mph so not much chance of churning up any dust.

The vast majority of U.K. roads are asphalt for motorways, A and B roads, there are still many cobbled roads off of arterial roads.

Like the one at the end of my road.

Brick paved roads are used for pedestrian friendly areas.

Gravel is more for driveways or used by authorities for what’s called ‘escape lanes’, for when a vehicle loses it’s brakes or has faded brakes having gone up and steep hills.
