It’s hard to believe there’s a country song out there that doesn’t pander to beer drinking, pickup truck driving, Confederate flag waving rednecks, but this is one.
I believe she won new artist of the year, song of the year and maybe a grammy. Anyway, she’s a peach. The song is great, too.

I mean it’s pretty accurate social commentary and surprisingly progressive views for a country song. If the melody and her voice were more interesting and if it had a more thought out and serious video it could be way cool. A critical voice from inside the traditional sphere, using their medium to send a message.
It’s just a shame that she didn’t expand a bit more on the idea. I know that 3 minutes aren’t enough to properly do so but there are a bunch of songs which came close to giving a meaningful insight into current politics and culture.

haha yes, there is actual good country music out there if you steer clear of pop-country. Which is very hard to do on FM radio.
As a general rule I dislike most country music. But haven’t dismissed it wholesale, haha. I do enjoy for instance Chris Stapleton.

Chris Stapleton is good. I like Sturgill Simpson, Turnpike Troubadours and Jace Everett for modern country. Can never go wrong with Cash or Willy.

A friend of mine recently introduced me to Sturgill, I liked him too! Because of pop country I for years just completely dismissed any kind of modern country, but thankfully there’s still some good country music out there. It’s a pity pop country is what it is. But I suppose I shouldn’t judge to harshly, I enjoy some pretty terrible rap/hip-hop music myself. But for some reason it’s the terrible country that just really pisses me off. I think it’s unfortunately in-part because of the types of people I associate it with. The stereo-typical racist, confederate flag flying, coal rolling asshole.
