While working on a traded in Mustang V6 a technician at work was overheard saying “There’s a 7.5 or 8.8 rear end option? Which one does it have?”

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I opined that since it was a V6 it was probably the 7.5, but went to Google and typed in “Ford 7.5 and 8.8 difference” and THIS VIDEO IS THE FIRST LINK.

I’ve not heard of it being an “option”. V6 models came equipped with the 7.5, while V8 models got the 8.8 (for the most part, anyway. It depends on the year range in question).

But it’s a Mustang, so you never know- someone could have swapped it out. Upgrading to an 8.8 is always one of the top recommendations for someone looking to soup up their V6. Once you know what to look for, it’s easy to eyeball it.

By ‘option’ he meant when he was looking up labor times to replace the leaky rear axle seals he was given the choice and did not which it had.

I kinda thought it was a 7.5, being a stock looking 2005 V6. But had to be sure. Thank RCR for being there <3
