Oh and it’s got both a rear tailgate and a ramp on the side. The Oppo vibe is strong with this one.

It’s basically a Porsche 911 in pickup form.

More interestingly, the side ramp area is in a step-down. I have heard these things were considered the bee’s knees by landscapers... which is not a good way for vehicles to survive fifty years.

I ran into a guy who had one in my village and approached him to talk (I always try to talk to people with cool cars) really an interesting vehicle.

Yeah, there’s 2 levels in the bed, thanks to that flat six out back.

And I’m picturing every landscaper with one of these loading the step down area to the gills with dirt/sod etc., going wayyyyyy over gross and eventually buckling that unibody...

I keep an eye on these on eBay and Craigslist. They are on the extensive list of cool/unusual vehicles I want.

There aren’t a lot, but there seem to be more than I would’ve thought up for sale at any given time.

It’s rare that my local Craigslist doesn’t turn up either a Corvair truck or van. I almost bought one of the vans last year, but when I wanted to finalize the deal the seller seemed to drop off the face of the earth.

I grew up riding it one of these. Same color combo too. My grandpa had three corvairs. The truck, the van, and a convertible Monza. My mom has so many pictures and videos of us kids playing on the ramp side. I thought that truck was the coolest thing in the world when I was a kid. Well, second to my grandpa. He was always taking me for rides in his old and nearly all air cooled stuff. Whether those corvairs, 1930’s wood frame and canvas aircraft, or 1940’s John Deere.

A Monza convertible, Corvan, Rampside, AND a rag & wood airplane? Your grandpa definitely awesome!

What was the airplane? Open cockpit?

The wood and canvas plane was an Aeronca Chief. That thing was mildly terrifying because it was hand cranked to start and had no parking brakes. You could see out the doors that differed little from a crappy screen door on your house. There was also an Ercoupe and a couple Bonanza’s. The Ercoupe is a semi-open cockpit. The planes and cars eventually went away due to eyesight and arthritis. Then he got a V12 XJS. I’m still trying to get that from my grandma.

Mm. I always forget that Chevy was using the Corvair platform as a modular thing, a la VW, to make a bunch of cool stuff. Did they just make the sedan, van (Greenbrier?), and pickup?

Those, plus the coupe, convertible and station wagon. Last one was only for a few years. I think that’s it.
