Kinja'd!!!

So here I sit, on the balcony, in my hotel room in the south. Beer in hand. Football on TV. But my mind is on the auto show. I’ve gone to either Boston or Providence the last 4 years and will have to go to the Providence one again this year. Last year I was described as “like a kid in a candy shop” as I bounced excitedly from make to make. Car to car. Seat to seat.

Personally I plan a circuitous route on who to hit and when, then walk around each model trying to note something of interest. Sure there are the spry \enthusiast cars, and I wait my turn for those, but I also just want to see and learn it all. I look at stock tire sizes, comfy seats, storage and electrical ports. Even window stickers will stop me for a few seconds. I just like being around cars!

So how about you lot?

I try to fit my tall ass in all cars/seats that are not meant to fit me. It’s always fun when the Nissan rep asks me politely to get out of the back of a GT-R.

The last time I went to an auto show it was several years ago, and it went something like, “oh there’s that thing I saw online, there’s that other thing I saw, there’s that other thing, yup, that one too, ok let’s go.” I also realized I don’t have the patience to hover around a car and wait for my chance to sit in it with random show-goers and I don’t feel like poring over minute details when surrounded by strangers, or listening to the booth professionals recite their memorized schpiels about whatever car they’re presenting.

Haven’t been back since.

Idk why but I don’t take many pictures. Might be the crowds actually. Last year I only took a picture of an Aston Martin to show off my Pixel camera to my dad, and a picture of my now ex-girlfriend (don’t ask) looking goofy with a VR headset on. Might try for more now that I can post to OPPO.

I hear you. Went to the dc show a few years back and it was disappointing. It was more of a “dealer day” than a car show. Not many super new, cool, or experimental cars make it to dc. It’s mainly cars already for sale. Yes, there are some new models that are cool to see, but basically we pay big bucks see mediocre cars and eat over priced mediocre food.

And half the cars you can sit in have their shifters removed so people don’t steal them. I hate people. And mediocre car shows.

sit in as many as possible. I’d skip most of the “ooohhh look at that”. funny the last time I went the the new york show, the boxster had 20 people and line with about 2standing waiting to sit in the 911.

I loved to do that too - back when the Scion iQ was still around, I adjusted the front passenger seat to fit me, then climbed into the back passenger seat (3+1 - driver, front pass., rear pass., + child behind driver), and I fit decently.

It wasn’t too hard though - I’m an adult at 5' 4".

The new challenge is to try to fit in a Morgan 3-wheeler.

I’ve been to the Canadian International AutoShow (Toronto, February) yearly since ’05 (skipped ’08 though), and while I do take a few dozen pictures, I don’t end up doing anything with them. Mostly, it’s nice to experience sitting in many of the new cars - we haven’t gotten a new car since 2005, so new car technologies are always unfamiliar for me (even touchscreens!).

Haha, I did the iQ too, though at 6’5” I had to sit sideways across the back seats with my 6’8” brother being in the front seat.

I have yet to see a Morgan of any sort but I’d love to try a 3-wheeler. I can’t fit in a Miata so my hopes of fitting aren’t high on that either.

You should do a “if Volvos were named like Ikea products” thread.

I went to British Car Day over in Oakville this past September, and was amazed at how narrow the seats in the (classic 1930s) 3-wheeler were - they looked like 2/3 of a normal seat, and the footwells looked cramped even for my 8.5ish shoes.

You never know though, perhaps the modern one is quite a bit wider, and you might fit since the footwells are quite deep, and there’s unlimited headroom.

The potential issue is that my legs aren’t quite long enough - I adjusted the seat in an MG B to the most forward position, and I could barely depress the clutch fully (the seats don’t adjust much though).

I took pictures, but my SD card was corrupted, and every single one was wiped.
