Hello Oppo, I know we’ve got a couple of members who fancy an adult beverage every so often.
I need your help in finding a good tequila to gift to my girlfriend’s dad. I’ve only ever seen him drink Patron Silver so I’m not sure if he’d like añejo tequila. He only ever drinks it straight up too. If it’s under $100 that’d be great too.

Tequila is not my friend. It’s a “wake up naked in a dumpster,” spirit.
Tequila is like that person who shows up at the party and four things happen:
1. Someone’s going to fight
2. Someone’s going to cry
3. Someone’s going to vomit
4. Someone’s going to get naked.
Seriously, the last time I drank tequila - didn’t even get really drunk - I spent the next morning watching Cars and weeping at the final scene where Lightning McQueen pushes The King across the finish line.

Hey, at least you know what it does to you. But you’re not the only person I’ve heard say that about tequila.
Luckily with my girlfriend’s dad, it’s the crying. He’ll put on some mariachi music and get all emotional, drink and laugh, then cry again.

I’m going to second Cabo wabo. I crewed for a raceteam for a few weekends and we joked our car was sponsored by Nissan, and thenbad decisions were sponsored by Cabo wabo. Like the time we tried to put giant googly eyes on the driver’s 240Z. Or the time we decided to see how many people would show up to a cookout at 1am. I’ve always been pretty sure that people who primarily drink Patron Silver are just vodka drinkers in disguise, which makes me even more certain that the correct answer to this is Milagro Reserve, for three reasons: 1. it is perfectly serviceable for drinking (and definitely better than Patron); 2. it makes a good gift because the bottles look cool; and 3. your stupid government-mandated liquor middleman will probably carry it.

To be honest, I have no idea why he prefers Patron. I’ve seen a couple bottles of añejos in his bar but he’ll only ocassionally touch them.
Thanks for the recommendation too, they actually do carry it nearby and I’m sure he’ll like the bottle.

I’not much of a tequila guy anymore (one too many bad nights), but I will make the occasional margarita with Espolòn Blanco. Very good stuff, indeed.

I’ll second that Milagro bottle. It looks amazing, and the tequila is pretty good, too. Someone else mentioned Cabo Wabo; also an excellent choice. If you go anejo I’ve got more to say, but it doesn’t seem like the right direction to go in this case...

Patron is shit tequila, so you can probably buy him whatever and he’d be gtg. Don Julio 1492 is good tequila and can be had for about $100.

Herradura is where it’s at for smooth tequila.
Also, Kirkland brand tequila (Costco house brand) is damn fine stuff for the money. 100% agave, cheap and the anejo is very sippable.
