Kinja'd!!!

Could someone with a stock height, stock lip BRZ (premium or limited) measure the distance from the bottom of the front lip to the ground? And if you’re feeling extra generous, the distance forward from the center of the front wheel to the front tip of the lip?

The plan is still to get a BRZ next year, but my latest concern is driveway scrape. The street we’re on has a pronounced crown, so the angle between the end of our driveway and the road is fairly sharp. Our 2010 Mazda3 Sport scrapes unless taken out veeeeeeery slowly. Supposedly the Mazday is actually a few tenths lower than the BRZ, but I know that’s at each car’s lowest point, which probably isn’t the front bumper. So I’m interested in knowing how low the front of the BRZ is and how long the overhang is. And, just curious, how often have you found scraping the lip to be a problem?

No idea what the numbers are but my dad has scraped his bumper a couple of times. The issue isn’t so much how low the bumper is but the sizable front overhang on the BRZ. There is a lot less overhang on the sides and taking inclines at an angle helps a ton.

So you’re not going to lift it and turn it into a rally car? :(

I can measure once I get home, but I am usually able to prevent scrape by hitting bad driveways at a 45 degree angle.

That said if you are concerned, it’s probably going to scrape, its a pretty low car.

If you’d asked me a year ago I would’ve gone right out and given you all the measurements you need.

Yeah, that’s why I asked for the distance from the wheel to the front as well

Not before it’s paid off

and if he would have asked me three years ago when I test drove one at the dealership I would have gotten him the measurements right away!

This site claims an approach angle of 13.2 degrees. https://www.car.com/subaru/brz/2015/premium-(m6) /specifications/

Mines slightly lowered, I don’t have problems scraping though (I used to scrape more often with my old WRX).

You should make an account on http://www.ft86club.com/forums/ if you haven’t already. I’m pretty sure there are plenty of posts about this very issue. The 86 forums are awesome and you can get any kind of info you could think about for the platform.

A stock twin will clear a standard parking bollard but not by much.

I have a large hill that my car teeter totters over in my apartment parking lot complex, if I turn left there my car scrapes but the lowest points are the front cross-member or the flange on my aftermarket exhaust which aren’t too terrible of places to scrape.

I have one that’s stock height. Never scraped and I’ve driven over some fairly angled driveways then.

You will scrape. That’s the reason I put a cheap eBay lip on my old BRZ. I didn’t mind scraping that when pulling in/out of parking lots or driveways.

I have no doubts I’ll scrape some places, I just want to figure out if my driveway 2+ times a day is one of those places. A cheap eBay lip is a good idea

I almost got to drive one once, but that probably wouldn’t qualify me to assist you.

I had the Scion equivalent as a rental in Oregon a month ago, which solidified my determination to own one

I didn’t test the limits too much, because I didn’t want to be that guy. But yes
