I mean, I do think the front end treatment looks better than the Highlander, but is it really Subaru if you just cram a flat-4 in a Toyota?

how does Oppo feel? I’m just curious....

As a man who isn’t in the market for one, but appreciates that it’s additional income for Subaru,

I’m... Okay with it. It looks somewhat muscular without being over-the-top “RAWR I’m an ANGRY car!!!“ if you get what I’m saying.

Who knows. Being a Subaru, there’s a decent chance that there will be some decent aftermarket support. I’d be 100% okay to see this things lifted and kitted out like somewhat modern Foresters and Outbacks

Its a taller 8 seat outback, its EXACTLY what Subaru needs for its showroom.

It’s a “Foresterized” Legacy. Good expansion of their lineup. I predict many dogs hauled by these.

FYI that’s the vision concept, this is the production one.

One day Outback owners will have 2 or 3 kids, and will need/want a larger vehicle. I think i’d still get a Highlander over this myself, but I could see this being a natural progression for a large percentage of current Subaru owners.

I think that’s their plan. I’m already thinking of trading my Outback for one.

It’s not a Highlander, it’s a Subaru platform.

um... Have you looked at the doors, b,c,d pillar, and dashboard? The a pillar is slightly modified from the Highlander, but the shut lines on the doors and rear glass are identical, also, aside from the infotainment software the dash is identical to the highlander. All the major shapes and design cues are identical. If its not a Highlander, it’s not a Highlander in the same way the BRZ isn’t a FRS. They may be slightly more different , given the Ascent has a boxer engine and symetrical AWD... But if they don’t share major components I will eat my internet hat.

You posted a picture of the Ascent concept, not the production version.

The Subaru Ascent website says: “The 2019 Ascent is built on the Subaru Global Platform using extensive high-strength steel. With great durability, rigidity and vibration resistance, the Ascent platform is designed to provide a quiet interior and excellent driving feel now and for years to come.”

The Subaru Global Platform was introduced on the 2017 Impreza/Crosstrek, the Ascent is the second vehicle built on a larger variant of this platform, and the platform will eventually percolate over to every other model (outside the BRZ) as they are refreshed.

The Highlander is built on the Toyota K Platform .

So yes, while there are many visual similarities between the Ascent and Highlander...

Kinja'd!!!

They do not share a platform.

they’re so freaking similar it’s unsettling. They’re within .2" of each other in all dimensions except overall length and wheelbase, the Ascent is indeed a couple inches longer.
