When I was in college, there was a chapter that would practice on the lawn of my dorm. The guy who ran the wood and metals shop in the basement got his degree in entomology, but he looked like your vision of a Middle Ages blacksmith. He would make period-specific armor for people, anything from practice helmets to ornately engraved suits of full plate.

Neat. I almost got into SCA a while back, but never followed through on it. Still have some swords and stuff stowed away, but I’ve hardly touched them since I got into cars.

The last place I lived in Stoon my roommate was big into SCA stuff. He went all over Canada and the US for stuff. We had to alternate between me stitching the Niva back together, and him forging and otherwise doing armouring stuff.

Heh. My bad. I forgot to include a key piece of the sentence, in that we had to alternate use of the garage.
He didn’t seem like a super outdoorsy person. I forage a bit sometimes, him, not so much.

I don’t think this picture was taken at Tech, but it is hard to imagine these two places are so close together. They have made an effort to gentrify the area though, even since I was there.

I knew a guy from college that started doing period style fighting on the west coast. It looked intense and I think thats a level up from what you witnessed.
