I only found out the other day I can watch DVDs in the car on the radio touchscreen.

I’m always finding new stuff on this car but having a car for a year and a half and not knowing this, I feel dumb.

It is an odd feature from a factory head unit.

I would watch while driving, but I haven’t see how it operates when moving, whether the screen would shut off or whether the DVD would stop completely.

Bloody hell, just looked. Second test day two, 442 - 29. Thankfully rain has stopped play and they can give themselves a right good bollocking over night for being so inept. 413 behind, dear god.

I know some Brits in Oz that will be very unhappy about now.

According to some other VAG owners, it’s a feature that’s been there since 2007.

I can’t verify this as the Mk2 Superb we had previously didn’t have the Columbus head unit our Mk3 has.

probably works like every other dvd playback in cars, it wont play unless the hand brake is on

Cool. That I don’t mind.

It’s a nice feature for if I’m stuck waiting for someone for ages, I can stick a film on.

Speaking of which. I miss a physical pull handbrake.

I have always wanted to ask a European about stuff like this.

Kinja'd!!!

On European versions of Mercedes Command dating back to the 1999 S-Class (and probably other cars, I’m just more familiar with Mercedes for obvious reasons), there is a TV button on the system. I have never been to Europe, nor seen one of these systems operate, but I have to assume that in the part of the world where the traffic laws are the most strict, you have the capability to watch television while driving...which strikes me as quite a distraction...

Honest question here: Why would I want to do that? I’ve never been sitting in my driver’s seat and thought, “Gee, I sure wish I could watch Dirty Harry here.”

I don’t know of any place in the whole of Europe that allows the driver to watch TV whilst driving.

I know some Land Rovers have a feature where the driver and the passenger see different images on the one screen. So the driver will see the sat nav screen, while the passenger can watch a dvd.

In some countries in Europe any form of distracted driving you get you a fine or points (or similar) on your licence.

I’ve heard of people getting pulled over for eating an apple whilst driving.

I suppose it’s nice to have a further option whilst sat for long periods in a stationery vehicle instead of just listening to the radio or the thumbing through pages on the Internet.

Maybe you don’t have other screens in the car and the kids are acting up, you can have the a Tellitubbies I video playing.

They only work when you’re stationary. And then not work when driving. But I hear its quite easy to bypass the limitations..

I tried it this evening out of curiosity.

As soon as you start moving at more than 5mph, the screen goes dark and says, ‘visual playback disabled while vehicle is in motion’.

You can still hear what is going on, which I’m not happy about because any loud sudden noise such as a gunfire scene could be dangerous.

I’m happy it’s an option for when sat in the car long periods.
