Not as much of a fan of this as I would be an LS powered RX-8. That would be near to my ideal daily driver. 2+2 V8 sports car with a decent Mazda chassis and a roof. Yesssss

“The car went 12.1sec”

Bullcrap.

Kinja'd!!!

‘Never been ran yet’ (sic) but did 12.1 sec. Maybe that’s the 0-60 time?

Rotary powered corvette C4.

It boggles my mind how popular V8 swaps are in RX-7s. I get the rotary is unreliable, but the whole point of the car is that they’re rotary. Plus I can’t imagine a rebuilt rotary engine is much more expensive than a V8. And since I doubt most people who own these daily them, it’d be a while before you’d need another engine.

Plus I’d think putting in a rebuilt rotary would be a lot cheaper and easier than a V8 swap.

I’d argue the original probably blew up. If that’s the case, I’m for it.

My dad knew a guy who did one with a 289 into his RX-7 and the thing just *couldn’t* turn; it had waaaay too much weight on the front.

That would be... interesting....

Precisely. Take a lightweight, nimble and fun vehicle and destroy every one of those attributes. What’s the point?

Hope not. That would make it slower than my 75 WHP (wishful horsepower) corolla. A V8 RX should do way better than that.

Its not hard to see why. Yeah, you are kinda going against the grain with a V8, but the upside is a lot of quality of life improvements the car would get in exchange. It’s easy to be an enthusiast on the internet, but big block fuel economy and a glass cannon engine (which it wouldn’t be if people cared for it properly, but you know most aren’t gonna do that) gets old fast.

Why not? Light car with a decent motor and trans with up to a 200 shot.

Should be possible with a good 60'.

If I had time (and lived nearby), I’d troll by asking for the price of the car as a roller without the drivetrain.

Maybe with a 200 shot. Maybe.

Some of the swaps shouldn’t mess up the weight distribution. The 302 adds about 150lbs over the rotary, but I believe the LS swaps are less weight and the balance is nearer 50/50. A 302 swap is meh, but a LS swap would be nice. V8 power and torque in a sub 2000lb car. Much fun could be had.

I’d rock it. It just needs the suspension built to match that engine.

Never mind it’s Automatic, ew
