Get on Forza 7, GT 7, or Project Cars 2, etc. Get a car that’s been power lapped on Top Gear. Then see how close you can get to the Stig’s time. Remember you have to start from a stop.
I did it with the R35 GT-R. Wikipedia says the Stig did it in 01:17:8

Lotus Esprit V8. Stig time is a 1:32.5.
My time is a 1:26.1. Really not sure why the difference.

Not testing a new car means the Esprit probably set a much slower time than it would have when new.

Nope. That episode aired December of 2002, and the Esprit ceased production in 2004. They used a new car.

Saw this post last night and did it this morning.
458 Italia- stock, standing start
Stig: 1:19.1
Me: 1:18.6
I notice in Forza 7 if you set it the race to 1 lap, there’s a lap time and a total time. Probably counts the few feet you drive before the starting line so total time is probably more accurate to the top gear leaderboard since it includes how well you launch the car
My total time was 1:19.0

The way I did it was to just go past the finish line, see the lap time. Then rewind to before the line. Come to a stop before it and start again. Of course that wouldn’t save your time, but I would just write it down.

Also, now I blame not being able to get close to the Stigs time on the GT-R. It has the most annoying handling characteristics. It oversteers just a hair on entry and the plows like a pig mid corner. Incredibly annoying. I’ll try it again later to day with a F430 or something.

Assetto Corsa, Ferrari F40, this third-party track , proper starting procedure (lined up before start/finish line). Setup was moving the car onto Street 90s tires instead of Street tires, and reducing fuel load to 5 liters.
1:31.575, versus a Stig time of... did not start.

I just tried the gtr and I agree. I was a bit quicker, but managing understeer is the name of the game. It’s easy to overdrive the car in that game.

I concur. I tried the 430 Scuderia (or whatever) and got with in half a second.
