It was friggin sweet. I was never huge on the twins but I could totally live with an exhaust note like that. Not nearly as aggressive as this but you get the idea:

Any oppos have UEL in their brz/frs? I didn’t do much research but I guess it would be a lot of money for mostly aesthetic gain, but it gives the car the personality it needs in my opinion.

No complaints about the non rumbly v6 life from me though. A nice change of pace from the last car I had exhaust done on, a 5vz 4Runner that sounded like it was dragging bricks. The j32 is as smooth and revvy as I’d ever want.

I personally hate the boxxer rumble, I think it sounds like electronic staccato filter on a drowning trombonist.

UELs change the sound of the FA completely. Add on a midpipe and it becomes nearly as rumbly as a near stock EJ. Some are of the opinion it’s too loud and skip the mid/front pipe.

I don’t LOVE it but I think it has a lot of personality for a 4 cyl

Not too many obnoxious subros here so it hasn’t been spoiled to me...yet

I’ve got an UEL header on my BRZ, ironically, I put an EL Header on my previous WRX.

A header and a tune get rid of the dreaded torque dip entirely.

Well then that would easily be the first thing I do if I had one. Any top end penalty?

I have a Tomei UEL on my BRZ. Love the sound, paired with the Perrin catback and high flow cat front pipe, it sounds aggressive but not ricey.

100% functional, I picked up 45ft lbs at 3800rpm. Actually hated the noise, but it was faster on track so I dealt with it.

Turbo now, with a equal length header. Sounds soooo much better

None, a good uel (Tomei or the knockoffs) will give the same top end power and way more torque than all but one equal length on the market.

You know what they say about opinions... Yours is wrong

I kid, I kid, I kid! I am not a fan of the sound of a flat 4. Just sounds really awkward.

I saw an FR-S with a UEL on it a couple weeks ago. Sounded great.

Yesterday a J-series Accord with some sort of serious exhaust passed by my store, sounded like a GT3.

Yeah the j series can range from dead silent stock to demonic (and slightly annoying) with a greddy catback. I’m on the quieter end of things with just a little roar from 2500 up. My last car was vq35 powered and although it made more power the j32 is way more special sounding to me.

The UEL headers actually give you a bump in the torque curve allowing for it to be more linear. The same goes for the EL but UEL gives you the rumble. That said, I don’t have it because it costs 1200 for headers and I’d need a tune to max out the gains. Plus living in California I’d need to swap headers every two years to do smog. Not fun.

Yeah, Greddy exhausts help. My Prelude (H23 VTEC) has an old Greddy Evo and it sounds savage.

Sorry for the bad photo, but something’s wrong with my phone camera.

That second one sounds a lot like my Outback (in the lower rev range at least), and is hampering my plan to keep my impending BRZ stock

The j35 with greddy sounds scary when it hits vtec yo.

One does not simply keep a BRZ stock. Ever.

A little bit. Mine’s deeper. I’ll make a video when I get it back from the shop. I dropped it off for inspection and alignment yesterday and told them I’m in no rush to get it back.
