!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

This may look like a Jeep Wrangler, but it is obviously a Canis Mesa. I imagine the driver was planting a proximity mine before getting back into his vehicle and driving off.

Police are looking for a driver who drove off after crash inside the tunnel on Interstate 93.

Kinda funny that they chose the words “drove off” here. What’re you gonna do, exchange insurance numbers with a VMS board?

Since the police are looking for him, I assume that he never even bothered to call MassDOT or whomever you’re supposed to contact in that situation. But since there was no other party present, and he determined that his vehicle was still drivable, does that make this a hit-and-run?

Probably destruction of government property.

I hate new channels that think it’s okay to watch a 30 second ad for a 10 second clip. This is why you’re going extinct.

Minimum, leaving the scene of accident.

Sorry about that. I’m using adblock so I just see a spinning loading circle for that time. I just thought it took a long time to load.

How long was he supposed to stick around, though? There’s nobody there to exchange information with.

It’s probably true that he had a phone with him that he could have used to call the police, or MassDOT, or whomever. And he might have even had a phone charger with him in case his battery was dead. But is he under legal obligation to have that stuff with him and use it to call someone right then and there, and wait for them to show up?

I’m guessing that the proper thing to do here, at the very least, would be to contact MassDOT and/or the police at his earliest opportunity (which might have been immediately, or after he got home). By the look of his Jeep, he probably could have even showed up in person. But I think we can infer from the report that he never did so. There was certainly some property damage here that has to be dealt with, but is there any need for him to stay at the scene?

Haha totally fine. I’m on mobile so no ad block that I know of.

This. I get the need for ads to fund “free” content, but if I have to sit through 30 seconds of ad for 15 seconds of news or a 10 second sports highlight I’m not coming back. Embed a banner for a product in the video or something. It can’t be that hard.

Yeah probably. An previous coworker pulled something like this but was drunk. Instead of getting a DUI, only got a leaving the scene.

It’s still a hit and run if no one else is there. I’d imagine if he had left a note, he would have been ok. Obviously the best course of action would have been to call the police either from his phone, or from a tunnel call box.

MA also requires that you file a report with the Registry of Motor Vehicles within 5 days. Doesn’t look like a police report is specifically required, but it seems like you’d still be required to provide your info before leaving the scene.

Weird. A DUI would have been totally appropriate there.

Y’know, come to think of it, I too have been in a single-car accident and left the scene ...of a deer strike.

This is why I don’t watch news videos most of the time, or even read the article. I click a link to get there, and then it autoplays a 30-second unskippable ad. I either can’t tell which tab it is, or it just pisses me off a lot, so I close it all and don’t go back.

Since he left they couldn’t prove he was drunk. Actually he may have even crashed his truck and walked.

I hit a deer once in middle of Kansas. Didn’t stop.

Depending on your phone, adBlock Pro or something of the like will work.

Newer versions of Chrome put a little speaker symbol on tabs in the background that are making noise. I’m not sure if any other browsers do.
