I know a guy from Iceland that won’t live there anymore, he says the tourism and everything is changing everything.

My ideal Iceland-exploring vehicle would probably be a UAZ 452.

Sour grapes maybe? Most tourists never get an hour outside the city. Why not just move to one of the small towns? Seeing as how it’s consistently ranked among the highest quality of life countries in the world, I’d be reluctant to leave if I lived there, but that’s just me. I put up with tourists all year here in CO, and I don’t love them, but I find it hard to believe they’d get me to move countries.

Was talking to a crotchety neighbor about camping and hiking near Nederland and his response is (paraphrased):” Yeah, I was born here and [rabble rabble rabble] everything is just so crowded. I don’t camp or hike or ski anymore because there’s just too many people.”

Cool. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

Oooh, a Scania bus! That is, a Scania truck-bus, not a mere common or garden Scania chassis-ed bus.

Is there much daylight there now?

He’s got a point though. I was there in 2012 and we were told that it was looking to be a record year, after records in each of the previous two years. At the time they were something like 500,000 visitors annually. It’s expected to be 2m this year, mostly in the brief summer, and that’s a hell of a lot for a country with 330,000 people.

True. I didn’t get the full effect in late November.

Well, Iceland is a pretty terrible place for car longevity, with all the ice, slush, and road salt.
