Fords only ever suck because their design philosophy smokes meth and shoots heroin on the cheap, not because they’re *bad* bad.

It feels weird knowing that I picked a front-drive Ford over an FR-S because it was easier to get the FoST sideways than the dorifutomobile.

Not giving a shit about brands is a good thing.

Getting old, well, it beats the alternative.

Must not be an old Tempo or Taurus.

Don’t be afraid; embrace it. Eventually your balls will hit the toilet water so it’s best to get this stuff out of the way before that happens.

If I ever forget I drive a BMW, I’m sure my car will break and remind me to bring my wallet.

I was raised as a Chevy guy, but mostly and Anti-Ford guy. I gave my gramps so much shit for driving a Ford truck that he told me if I didn’t like it I could get out and walk.

Now I’ve owned a Ford, have a Chevy powered Ford in my garage and DD a Subaru.

I’ve been looking at newer cars and my E46 found out. Now it’s holding me hostage for a new thermostat.

Ironically the thermostat when bad in my E90 at the same time as the first throttle position actuator went out; that was extremely expensive.

That’s why I shop for cars I already own. My E9Xs can’t get mad at me if they’re almost irreplaceable. Find me another 6MT E90 M3 with under 45k on it, almost impossible, or a one owner E92 328i M-sport 6MT.

God I remember replacing thermostats on several cars with a couple of bucks, a screwdriver, and 5 minutes if I fucked around while doing it.

On an E46 though? LOL nope

Just found your 328i :P 80K miles for $18K

Aaaaand just found two M3s with a stick, but they’re at 46K and 47K miles.

I paid 17k for a 1 owner 328i with 40k miles on it.

Are the they sedans or coupes? 2011 sedans with 6MTs and decent miles are hard to find.

I’ve had better success on my E46 than on my Willys, which somehow I keep fucking up. No one makes a good water neck for an aluminum 302 intake manifold.

The E46 is pretty easy once you get the fan out of the way.

Ah shit. The M3s are coupes. You got a hell of a deal on that 328i

Yeah, I keep looking and I can’t find anything close to the deal I got.

I thought I heard it was worse than that - I haven’t done it. So far, mine seems to be immune to the typical E46 ailments. Haven’t even replaced the water pump and it has 109k on it.

Watch me overheat on the way home now...

DUDE REPLACE YOUR WATER PUMP

The old E46 pumps are made from plastic that will get brittle and explode, clogging your cooling system with bits of plastic. Replacements aren’t very expensive, and other than bleeding the system are very easy to replace. Also, your thermostat fails open, so you won’t notice unless you 1) don’t get hot air during the winter or 2) see your temp dip on the highway.

This is absolutely the truth, but sometimes you don’t notice it until you want to modify something.

I mean, I completely understand the “Continuous improvement” idea, it allows changes from year to year to fix small issues. But it’s impossible to figure out exactly what timing cover you need to put 4v heads on a 2v 4.6L.

I know, I know - I actually have worse preventative issues on another car that I’ve been blowing off, too. This one I can handle though, and will knock it out this winter.

I live in Chicago - believe me, I’ll notice if that t-stat fails open.
