For a while now, a good longtime friend of mine (the one with the GMC with Flowmasters I posted about a few months ago) has been looking for an older car to play with. Tomorrow, I’m taking him to look at this beaut.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

If it’s as nice as it looks, it couldn’t be more of a NP.

Hm. You’re right - if it’s as nice as it looks, you guys will be bringing it home.

Looks like it has the typical PS/PB/Auto, 350/2v - good luck!

Plans are to ditch the junk 2 barrel and throw a 4 barrel at it. And then headers. And then a cam, and while he’s at it, pistons, and if he’s going to be doing the pistons, may as well port the heads.....

Let’s just say he’s wanting to do a LOT.

We’re also thinking an early 80s look would be real good. Centerlines (or the American Racing knock offs, since Centerline quit making the Auto Drag a few months back) BFG Radial T/As with white letters out, Sunpro tach, Autometer gauges, etc.

I figured that 2 barrel and intake would be one of the first things to go. It’s basically a lock that there’s a TH350 behind that motor, so at some point you may need to look at how sturdy that is if you really go wild on the internals.

The interior needs some work, but I gotta think you can find parts for that easy enough.

Body seems nice and straight- fingers crossed that it’s metal and not filler!

LOL I graduated HS in 1985 - and yeah, that WAS the look everyone wanted (unless you preferred Cragar S/S’s), and everyone wanted a ‘68-72 A body, too.

Cragars are certainly cool- I’ve got them on the Camaro, after all- but I thought the Centerline style wheels would be a nice change of pace.

As for the TH350, yeah, that’ll be getting a shift kit and a good stall converter.

They’re both cool, just different. And back in the early 80's, you either had or wanted one of the two, no question about it.

Personally, I think the Centerlines fit the 68-72 A-body better, and the Cragars are better for Camaros and older A bodies (64-67). The S/S’s are what I wanted for my Cutlass at the time, though I never got the $ to get them.

I think the Cragars fit the ‘68-’72 Cutlass better than Centerlines, but the rest of them look better with Centerlines.

Good point on the 68-72 Cutlasses (mine was a ‘65, not a fan of Centerlines on that gen). On the LeMans you could go either way, I think, but the Skylark and Chevelle will look better with the Centerlines.

Oddly, I think the Chevelle is the either way vote for me, the Pontiacs look ever so slightly cooler with Centerlines to me (Slots reign supreme on them though, IMO, Same with the Chevelles.)

Have you done a shift kit on a TH350? I have that trans in my El Camino and want a shift kit but I am leaning towards having it installed by someone who know what they are doing.

I have not. My wrenching experience is actually extremely limited.
