My Christmas gift to me is insuring the truck again. Going to drive it as much as I can.

Nice. Mergio would be proud to see another RAM out on the road.

I love everything about this truck except those chrome wheels.

Nice Ram! That baby is c.l.e.a.n!

Always loved the heritige building in the background too, although I always thought it needed storm shutters, lol.

Also, fwiw, one of the most unpleasant dining experiences of my life happened a bit down the road at the Lamplighter Cafe. I have never in my life been in a restaurant with more black flies inside it. Literally hundreds if not thousands of large black flies flying around the dining room, covering the walls and ceiling, landing on plates and on the food. I was disgusted and pretty horrified at the thought of what type of kitchen practices would result in such an infestation. How the owners/management/staff could keep the place open and operating under such circumstances was beyond me. I’m sure it’s probably not like that all of the time, but I’ll never go back to find out for myself.

Damn that truck looks good! You should take Mergio out for a ride, to show him what Chrysler was like before Cerberus, Daimler, Fiat et al. got hold of it!

Thanks! It isn’t as clean as it looks, some rust sadly, but I try!!

I know Paul & Nico (the owners) very well and both my wife and I have worked for them at the Lampliter.

Yeah, it is an older building and TONS of flies get in the summer. Often because it gets so incredibly hot in the kitchen in the summer, they leave the doors open.

It does get gross in the summer, so I totally get your observation. It is a nice restaurant with good food though, certainly on the higher end of things.

Unfortunately, all the buildings on that side of the street are now closing for development.

I miss hood ornaments.

Really? I don’t mind them. I didn’t choose them, they were put on by my dad when we were restoring it (see story below). I may change them at some point. I like the idea of black steelies with Ramcharger centre caps.

You mean perpetually on the verge of bankruptcy, only to be saved by this ?

Yep, pretty much. The mid-80s was one of the good periods, when they were temporarily *not* teetering on the brink of insolvency.

Wow, I can’t believe they’re tearing that side of the street down! The historic vibe of the area is such a huge draw for visitors, even if those buildings aren’t anything particularly special from a historic perspective.

I really wish I had tried the Lampliter during cooler months as the reviews were mostly very positive, and I do love a good meal. Shame they didn’t invest in screens for the windows and doors because that experience has really stuck with me... although the heritage society micromanaging the area may have had something to do with it.

Yeah it’s sad that the town is changing so much.

If you’re ever in the area, hit me up on here! I’m always up to meet other local Oppo’s!

Tearing down the things that areas are known for so more people can buy condos there is a Metro Vancouver tradition :/

Are those year of manufacture plates for the truck? Love the Expo 86 sticker, I still have an Expo 86 passport :)

They are model year plates, yeah! I sadly wasn’t around in 86, but my parents went!

No, these are not legal plates sadly. They are simply plates I bought from an antique shop from that year.

I have to use proper plates on it. It doesn’t qualify for collector plates, it isn’t 100% stock (wheels and stereo) and has rust.

IS the old BC plate real or a reproduction? It looks brand new. I know that’s around the time they switched to the flag plate.

I didn’t know BC got to be so wacky about collector plates - I swear it was easier once. It appears to only have to send in pics. Just take pics from a distance, and I doubt they’d realize the wheels aren’t stock, these kind of places don’t usually employ experts :)

Oh! Sorry. It’s legit from back in the day, not a reproduction.

Yeah, I may give it a shot, but they want a pic of the engine. which must be “detailed and rust free”

Nice, must be new old stock.

I guess the truck is cheap to register, anyway. Policies are much more liberal in WA state - if a vehicle is intact and roadworthy, you are good to go.
