Kinja'd!!!

I mean was quality control non-existent in the 70's?! I’ve never seen I firewall on a firebird/camaro that is this bad.

Kinja'd!!!

Seriously the amount of warped metal is ridiculous!

Kinja'd!!!

Just another thing to add to the “to do list” I guess.

As the owner of a mid 70's Italian car I can confirm quality control was not invented until the 1990's

Different levels of what was acceptable. Are you sure that firewall and warped metal are from the factory?

My 1978 Z/28 had the same (miss that car). The guess was an assembly line incident as body was lowered to the subframe.

This makes me feel a bit better. They probably just decided to send the car to Sweden instead of redoing it (all the Swedish Camaros and Firebird are covered in some undercoating lining). Because of this defects would be much harder to spot.

That’s just how they is.

Instead of stamping a nice hunk of metal, they just beat one into submission.

Mine from the inside:

And out:

Even new aftermarket ones are wrinkly.

Nope, but I’m having a really hard time seeing how this could happen without screwing anything else over. All the body panels have had great fitment for example.

The issue I’m seeing is that the firewall would have been stamped. A stamping wouldn’t do that type of warpage. Stampings were better in the 50's than that.

At least on yours it will be really hard to spot once it’s finished.

Somehow it feels good to know that even the reproudction panels have the same issues.

:Real life conversation from the GM factory in 1976:

Honestly thought I’ve had the car for 6 years and didn’t really notice until the engine came out. Soooo I guess they were right....

I get what your saying, it’s super strange! Even the 2 “C-shape* dimples line up fairly well

They actually didn’t. Didn’t I show you the pictures of my original wheels? painted completely off center. How that wasn’t a warranty issue is beyond me. The firewall.... I am less concerned with. What you want is subframe connectors to prevent any warping, body rigidity is nonexistent with these cars.

Can’t remember if you did or not, I’ve been away for a long time :P

Subframe connectors is definitely happening this time around along with some tubular A-arms and coilovers.

Make sure you get a set of those 8" wide wheels for maximum grip ability.

Now if only they still made summer tires for 15 inch wheels.

They don’t? Thinking about BFgoodrich and Cooper Cobras for example

Those are both actually all-seasons. Firestone used to make a tire, the firehawk indy? I think, but they stopped making it.

12/01/2017 at 18:20, STARS: 0

Yeah but I wouldn’t dare to run those in the snow, so I’d sorta count them as summer tires. My bird used to rock BFg’s and I never really felt it was the tires fault whenever I lost traction it was more due to me givin it a bit to much on the throttle.

Kinja'd!!!

What about Nascar tires then, aren’t those 15"?

Hoosier does make drag radials that fit 15 inch rims

Good in a straight line, but not for corners. You want to have something in between that hits the sweet spot.

Did they just bash in the transmission tunnel with a sledge to get a bigger transmission to fit?

Kinja'd!!! "The Swedish Bandit" (swedishbandit)

Maybe?, but it looks like they forgot to actually fit the bigger transmission then.
