And its from Capitol One. Dont get me wrong, I love Capital One. I just got a second credit card with them. But their auto finance arm sends me pre approvals (for up to $35,00!) damn near 2-3 times a month. They suck for only one reason: its a dealers of their choosing. This months dealer is Nissan, which has nothing I would want new or or used with the exception of the Maxima, though I feel like I would regret that decision a few months after getting one. Both new and used lots have mainly terrible terrible Versa’s, Sentra’s and Altima’s. Their bread and butter. A hard pass for me.

Bleah. If they’re the lender, what do they care who you buy from?
And unless it’s a realllly low rate (2% or GTFO) then it’s a hard pass.

Dealers get kickbacks from lenders, so maybe they have some promo agreement going on lowering those kickbacks. Which in turns it gets recovered via padding fees under the sale price, etc. to get it back from the customer.
Offers never come without strings, they have to make it back somewhere.

Once your accepted you use their search tool (kinda like autotrader). Most new car dealers will be on there.

See with me, they send me a pre approval letter with a dealer already selected on it of their choosing, along with a code. Once I confirm with the code the dealer they selected contacts me about coming in to look at their selection.

I did not know that. I indulged them once and showed my interest and the only thing that happened was constant voice mails from the dealer they selected wondering when I was coming in.
