Kinja'd!!!

Over a decade ago, I learned how to drive on a 5 speed ‘01 Outback, so of course I have always loved turbo Subarus. I finally own one and while the last two months have been amazing, my ‘09 WRX is missing something: it doesn’t make that stupid noise. Today is the day.

Kinja'd!!!

Nameless is actually in Woodland, Washington and all of their products are handmade in the USA. This is the quietest axle back setup they sell so I’m hoping it won’t be too loud. I can’t stop checking the stupid tracking notification SMH. It was about 100 miles away at 8:00 AM

01 Outbacks for the win! My first car was a Forest Green automatic.

Awesome! Mine was Wintergreen I think. Such great cars. They can really take a beating.

They are real tanks, especially in inclement weather. One of my favorite memories with it was the time my Dad and I used it to tow his Merkur XR4Ti rally car out of the back yard so it could move on to it’s new owner. Mid February our yard had 8 inches of heavy, wet snow. My dad tried launching the Merkur from it’s dry spot and using momentum to push over it, promptly beaching it on the skid plates. We backed the Outback onto the yard, hooked a tow strap between the two, and the Outback pulled it out of there like a champ.

Just got an AVO Catback on my Outback XT, Nameless is the only other company that makes mufflers that fit the stock outback bumper I almost went that route. Curious to hear your impressions.

Hahah that’s awesome, yeah they can handle so much snow. Around a foot if its powder that was my max. But yeah my family had it for 170k miles and it never had any issues, despite how hard I tried as a teenager with all of the high RPM snow hoonage.

Yeah I was amused to find out that our cars take the same cat back setups. How do you like yours so far?

I will definitely shoot a video and do a little review, there aren’t any good videos of this setup on yt.

You could get through anything as long as it wasn’t dense enough the bumper couldn’t push it out of the way. The day I discovered that putting the selector into 1 or 2 would lock the center diff at a 50-50 split was a good day. It was a drift machine in the snow when you wanted it to be.

My family ran ours from 30k in 2010 until this summer when we let it go at 110k. It was a great car but it was starting to succumb to being a Subaru in New England. It’s now up in Maine with a friend of my father’s who is a former Subaru mechanic and will probably keep trucking until the rear quarters disappear.

I like it, the drone is a bit more then I hoped for between in 2500-3500 with the worst right at 3000rpms. Some people say they’ve lined the spare tire area with dynamat and that helped.

All that said my wife hasn’t complained and said it sounded good.

We’ll see how it is on a road trip to San Diego this weekend.

I should shot a video as well.....

Enjoy the rumble! I just put an ebay 3" Legacy GT catback on my Outback XT (wanted to go with the Nameless axle backs originally but the whole exhaust was shot and couldn’t afford shelling out for something name brand at that point). It drones a little more than I’d like down low but I’m honestly pretty happy and my wife hasn’t complained yet at least. Post a video once you get the mufflers on, I’m sure they sound good!

Nice, that sounds like it worked out. The dynamat idea is pretty good, maybe I’ll end up trying that.

I will! From what I understand the drone is really hard to avoid with a Subaru exhaust, we’ll see how bad it is with this setup. I’ll definitely be making a video once the system is broken in.

I have Nameless axlebacks on my Outback and love them. I’ve had people compliment it a few times when I was giving Lyft rides as well. You can hear the rumble pretty good at the start of the video here.

Also, as it happens, I was just at Nameless HQ a few weeks ago. Been friends with those guys for almost five years now. You can chat with them about anything and it’ll only be a matter of time before they circle it back to overly detailed engineering debates that will make your mind spin. They’re all about performance (and new ways to get it) all the time

Awesome, huh I guess I just didn’t hear it on the rally? It sounds great in that video and the others I’ve seen. How’s the drone?

And lucky you! Sounds like an epic trip. I’ve never been to that area of the country. I have been to Turner Motorsports though and they are just like that, always down to show you the race cars and the shop.

Yeah, since I was first to arrive and last to leave at the start and finish there wasn’t really a chance to hear it. There’s a bit of a drone, but it’s not bad enough to be annoying, at least to me. I do usually have the radio on though. Not sure if it’s the same for the WRX, but in the case of the Outback if I decide the drone is too much I can add the midpipe which cuts it down a good amount.
